Japanese submarine of new generation Taigei SS 513 entered sea trials
The first Japanese non-nuclear submarine of the new generation Taigei SS 513 of project 29SS entered sea trials. According to Military Leak, the transfer of the submarine to the naval self-defense forces is scheduled for March 2022.
The new submarine was laid down on March 16, 2018 at the Kobe Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard and launched on October 14 last year. After commissioning, it will become the 22nd submarine in the Japanese naval self-defense forces. At the moment, two more submarines of this project are under construction; in total, it is planned to commission 7 submarines of this class.
The JS Taigei (Big Whale) submarine SS 513 is the next-generation lead submarine to replace the Soryu-class submarines. The new submarine retained the general shape of the Soryu submarine hull, but has a number of design changes. At the Taigei submarine, the cutting was significantly reduced to reduce hydrodynamic resistance and improve noise characteristics. In addition, the "insides" of the submarine have undergone significant changes.
It is reported that the submarine has an improved snorkel system in order to reduce the signature, a new generation GAS, new sound-absorbing materials are used to reduce the submarine's signature. The main difference from the previous generation "Soryu" is the rejection of the Stirling engine. Instead, new lithium-ion batteries are installed.
The standard displacement is about 3 thousand tons, the hull length is 84 meters, the width is 9,1 meters. Crew - 70 people. Other details have not yet been disclosed.
