"A significant number of accidents are associated with rollovers": the US Armed Forces assessed the accident rate of military vehicles
17
Specialists of the US Audit Office (GAO), which has broad powers in identifying shortcomings in the armed forces, analyzed the accident rate when driving equipment in the army and the Marine Corps.
According to the results of the study, during the period 2010 - 2019, 3 non-combat accidents occurred in these branches of the armed forces associated with driving class A and B tactical vehicles [Tanks and tracked or wheeled vehicles], which resulted in the deaths of 123 servicemen.
Driver inattention, oversight and training deficiencies were frequent reasons [...] The Army and Marine Corps lack a well-defined process for building skills and driving experience [...] Unit training focuses on priorities other than driving
- believe in the GAO.
As indicated in the report, a significant number of accidents are associated with rollover equipment. Based on the findings, the GAO demanded that commanders of all levels pay increased attention to the problem of accidents, adjust the workload on drivers, assess the number of personnel in units responsible for driving safety, and revise the driver training program.
