Biden: It was an honor for me to meet with Tikhanovskaya
Information has been confirmed that US President Joe Biden received Svetlana Tikhanovskaya at the White House. Recall that Tikhanovskaya is a former candidate for the presidency of Belarus, who fled to Lithuania after the announcement of the election results by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus. According to the CEC, she was defeated in these elections, and Alexander Lukashenko became the winner.
Tikhanovskaya announced the rigging of the results, and, being already in Lithuania, proclaimed herself “the national leader of Belarus”. By the way, the current US Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus is also in Lithuania. Washington explains this by the fact that the official Minsk does not issue a visa to the ambassador.
Information that Biden met with Tikhanovskaya appeared on the pages of social networks associated with the President of the United States. Tikhanovskaya herself also managed to talk about the meeting in several interviews, and without any particular details.
It should be noted that Tikhanovskaya in the United States did not receive such a magnificent reception, which at one time was given to Juan Guido - the man who proclaimed himself on the streets of Caracas "the Venezuelan president." Tom was even entrusted with speaking before congressmen. However, after a few months, the same congressmen began to forget about Guaido, and today this name practically does not appear on the American public and political agenda.
As noted by American political scientists, Biden promised Tikhanovskaya "support in defending human rights and freedoms, in protecting democratic values." It is added that the United States also promised to provide “all-round assistance to the Belarusian opposition”.
Biden:
It is worth noting that Tikhanovskaya has been in the United States for several days. Earlier, Victoria Nuland ("specialist" on Maidans) and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with her. According to some reports, Tikhanovskaya has once again asked for the introduction of new anti-Belarusian sanctions. Tikhanovskaya was also received at the house of the “council” of the Belarusian diaspora in the United States.
