New generation communication terminals are being developed for the US Army, resistant to the effects of electronic warfare
The Pentagon is implementing a program to modernize the communications system for military personnel. This program is being implemented due to the fact that, as they say in the American military department itself, the existing communication systems are increasingly becoming vulnerable to enemy weapons, including electronic warfare (EW). It is pointed out that the applied software protocols and hardware allow the enemy "to distort the signal or intercept it for further use for their own purposes."
To increase the level of security in terms of communication between the military, a program is being implemented to re-equip the US Army with radio communication devices.
It is reported that the development of the Leonardo DRS company will most likely be taken as a basis. This technology belongs to a new generation. The tactical communication terminal itself, based on it, is about 60% lighter than existing analogues and is several times more protected from external influences.
From the report:
Such communication terminals are planned to be installed in combat vehicles. They take up less space and are capable of transmitting signals over long distances without interference in virtually any environment. The battery is rated for 7 years. However, it can be replaced in the field.
It is indicated that a promising communication terminal allows the exchange of data under conditions of intense radio-electronic interference. At the moment, the specific performance characteristics of the communications complex for the US Army are not announced.
The next generation communication terminals should begin to enter the troops in 2023. By 2025, it is planned to re-equip the US Army with them completely.
