American edition: Part of the US military contingent will remain in Afghanistan until September
10
The bulk of the American military contingent will leave Afghanistan within two weeks, but some of the military will remain until September. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing sources in the White House.
The withdrawal of the main part of the US military will be completed by the US Independence Day, which is celebrated on July 4, the agency writes. However, the Pentagon is leaving about 650 troops in Kabul to guard American diplomats, as well as several hundred to guard the Afghan capital's airport.
There is no information on the part of the military left for the protection of diplomatic workers, most likely they will remain in the protection of various missions in Kabul, but the airport security is planned to be kept in Afghanistan until September of this year. All this time, the Americans will provide support to the Turkish military, who will deploy a full-fledged military base to guard the Kabul airport.
It is planned that by the beginning of autumn, Ankara will be able to independently protect this strategic facility, after which the remaining US military will leave the territory of Afghanistan.
Recall that US intelligence gives the Afghan government three to six months, after which power will pass to the Taliban (the Taliban * movement is prohibited in Russia). Since the beginning of May, the movement's militants have already captured 50 regions of Afghanistan.
