President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin made a speech to the deputies, in which he summed up the work of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the seventh convocation. Putin praised the activities of the legislators and thanked them for their work.

Recall that last year, against the backdrop of a pandemic in Russia, a vote was held on amendments to the Constitution.

On July 1, 2020, they (changes) were approved during the all-Russian vote, received almost 78 percent of the votes. Such a high unambiguous assessment of people suggests that the changes to the Constitution met their expectations, exactly coincided with the common desire to strengthen civil society and the Russian state, their main institutions, including parliament, to protect the historical memory of the people and our right to a sovereign path of development, in additional specific clear guarantees to reflect the unconditional social priorities of the political and economic course, to introduce into the Constitution a whole range of other significant, principled positions, taking into account the experience of state building that we have accumulated over the period since 1993.
Many citizens of the Russian Federation expressed the opinion that the amendments were put to a general vote in order to give the incumbent president the opportunity to participate in elections after the expiration of the current term.
Addressing the deputies, the head of state recalled that during the pandemic, the deputies adopted laws aimed at overcoming its consequences.
The President noted that the upcoming parliamentary elections should be held in such a way that no one doubts the legitimacy of their results.
Elections of deputies of the State Duma of the eighth convocation will take place on a single voting day, September 19. Attention is drawn to the statements of individual experts that by September "the incidence of coronavirus in the country may decline."
