The reason for the next postponement of the sea trials of the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in India was called the rainy season
In India, it is reported that sea trials of the Vikrant aircraft carrier cannot begin in the country. This aircraft carrier has been under construction for the Indian Navy for 15 years. INS Vikrant was launched in 2013. In the fall of last year, the so-called pool tests were carried out, and the sea tests were planned to be completed in the first half of 2021. However, plans have to be adjusted again.
Initially, the postponement of the start of sea trials of the Indian aircraft carrier was associated with the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. Indian officials are now saying that INS Vikrant will not start sea trials due to the rainy season. The monsoon season with heavy rainfall in India began in early June. It usually lasts until mid-September.
It is in September, as stated, that the Vikrant aircraft carrier will enter the tests, which should be the final ones for the aircraft carrier. After them, INS Vikrant is scheduled to enter service with the Indian Navy.
At the moment, work is underway on the aircraft carrier to equip it. The main question for the Indian Ministry of Defense is which aircraft will form the basis of the Vikranta air wing. While we are talking about carrier-based fighters MiG-29K, but in India they say that it is necessary to consider options with more modern aircraft. How long such a review will take is difficult to say. Apparently, the Indian authorities themselves do not know about this, and for 6 years they have not been able to decide which aircraft to order for their Air Force. So far, 36 French Rafales have been ordered, and the choice has not yet been made for 114 aircraft planned for purchase. Recall that the extended list of applicants includes Russian MiG-35 and Su-35, French Rafale, as well as American F-15, F-18 and Swedish JAS 39 Gripen.
