Ukraine intends to develop a heavy strike and reconnaissance drone - an analogue of the Turkish strike drone AkIncI. The main developer will be Antonov State Enterprise. This is reported by the Ukrainian media.
Reportedly, the project of an attack drone was proposed to be developed on the initiative of Ukroboronprom, while the development work and the manufacture of a UAV demonstrator, the enterprises that will be among the participants in the project, must carry out at their own expense.
Antonov will be responsible for the creation of the drone itself, including the chassis and engines, which are proposed to use the AI-450 manufactured by Ivchenko-Progress. The development of electronic filling and related equipment will be carried out by other enterprises.
The result should be a heavy unmanned aerial vehicle with a take-off weight of over 3 tons and capable of carrying up to 800 kg of weapons. The work will not be carried out from scratch, it is reported that in 2018 Antonov presented a model of a strategic unmanned aerial vehicle capable of carrying 6 tons of payload with its own takeoff weight of 1,4 tons. It was stated that this drone is capable of staying in the air for up to 24 hours.
Kiev hopes that it will be possible to develop a new strike UAV rather quickly. An example is the Turkish company Baykar, which began developing the Akıncı UAV in 2018, and by the end of 2019, the first prototype had already flown.
