Today started the international exercise "Watchful Eagle-2012"
28 August began the international exercise "Watchful Eagle-2012". It is carried out in accordance with the Work Plan of Military Cooperation between the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the United States of America on 2012.
In the course of the exercise, the Air Force of Russia and the Command of the Aerospace Defense of the North American Continent (NORAD) will work out the issues of interaction during the capture of an aircraft by terrorists.
Computer command and staff exercises are conducted in the 4 phase in real time with the development of the entire complex of control of the forces and facilities of the Russian Air Force and NORAD. When practicing the stages of the exercise, the servicemen will have to interact on escorting the hijacked aircraft and transferring control over it from the Air Force of one country to another.
As envisioned by the exercise, a passenger airliner hijacked by terrorists in the United States is sent into the airspace of the Russian Federation. Aircraft of the Russian Air Force receive escort of a hijacked aircraft from NORAD forces and force the aircraft to land on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Units of the armed forces of Russia, the USA and Canada are involved in the exercise. From the Armed Forces of Russia involved personnel of the Eastern Military District (VVO).
The main teaching headquarters are located in the cities of Khabarovsk, Colorado Springs, auxiliary - in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and Anchorage, the interaction groups at each of the management headquarters consist of the military of Russia, the USA and Canada.
On the eve of the interaction between the teams at the headquarters of leadership held a training on communications, during which questions of stability and continuity of communication with staffs and aircraft were checked and reported to the leadership of the readiness exercise.
The leaders of the exercise are from the Russian side the commander of the 3rd Air Force and Air Defense Command of the Eastern Military District, Major General Sergei Vladimirovich Drones, and from NORAD, the head of the department for preparing and conducting exercises, Mr. Joseph Bonnet III, noted the high degree of readiness of the interaction groups to conduct the exercise.
The teaching has become traditional and is being held for the third time. The first such exercise was held in 2010. The Vigilant Eagle-2012 will end - August 29.
