For a long time, the West does not consider open and open lies in conversations with Russia to be something out of the ordinary. You can promise anything you want, but you only need to do what is beneficial to the West. Russia will crumple and shut up. What, by and large, has happened and is still happening in reality. I offhand can name five "excuses" according to which "we simply cannot adequately respond to the West." Starting with a weak economy and ending with the small number of our Armed Forces.
Only a blind person does not notice that for several years now the European Union, not to mention the United States, has been showing disregard for Russia's interests. Neglect bordering on bullying. All these accusations against Russia for any reason and for no reason. A sharp increase in sanctions and more. The same Navalny is in fact a rather crude provocation, the purpose of which will be another package of sanctions in mid-February.
Do you know what is the vilest thing in all that we see? The most disgusting thing is that any Russian, no longer thinking about how to avoid sanctions, will answer - no way. Let us bend over this issue, come up with the next one, but there will still be sanctions. And it is true. We are so used to sanctions that we no longer react. I have already read many times in various comments the thesis that Russia has always been under sanctions.
Moreover, we are already quite calmly talking today that we expect provocations from the West. We expect more active exploration from adjacent territories. We expect even military provocations performed by some former brothers in the USSR. Even about a big war, the probability of which has increased many times over, we speak calmly.
And why? Why are we always to blame, according to the West? Why are we always in the position of making excuses? Why did we decide that we need the West more than the West does? We need to sell gas ... Doesn't the EU need to buy gas cheaper? We need Western technologies ... And why are Western technologies better than Asian ones? We depend on Western companies. Are Western companies independent of us? I will not write about the sales market and natural resources.
We all remember the recent statement by Sergei Lavrov regarding the possible curtailment of relations with the EU. Western media reacted to it quite violently. However, if we go back in time just a little, we can find numerous warnings from the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry about the possibility of such a decision.
And so Lavrov said at a press conference following talks with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman in Zagreb on December 16, 2020:
