Five suspects who had previously worked in the police were indicted on three criminal charges. In this regard, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation appealed to the Basmanny District Court of Moscow with a request to arrest suspects who had previously worked in the law enforcement bodies of Moscow.
About this news agency TASS the press service of the Basmanny Court said.
Former police officers Maxim Umetbaev, Akbar Sergaliev, Roman Feofanov, Denis Konovalov and Igor Lyakhovets are accused of abuse of power, drug trafficking and falsification of evidence. The latter served as head of the department for combating the illicit trafficking of heroin, synthetic drugs, psychotropic and potent substances.
The representative of the Basmanny court specified:
They are charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: “Abuse of official authority”, “Falsification of evidence and the results of operational investigative activities” and “Illicit drug trafficking”.
The investigation claims that police officers illegally purchased drugs and then planted them with Meduza journalist Ivan Golunov to launch an illegal criminal investigation against him.
At the moment, the accused have already been brought to court.
