Police in New York: Iran is behind the terrorist attacks against the Israelis. Report data.
This week, the New York Police Department Intelligence Agency prepared an analytical report, according to which only this year - with the direct participation of militants linked to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, their associates from the Lebanese Hezbollah or local residents - were attempted terrorist attacks against Israelis or Jewish targets outside of Israel. This report is reported in exclusive material from Reuters, published on 21 July.
According to the cited report, there were three such attempts in January, three in February and three from the end of June. We are talking about the preparation of terrorist attacks in Bangkok (twice), New Delhi, Tbilisi, Baku, Mombasa, Cyprus and Bulgaria (twice).
Tehran every time categorically denied involvement in the preparation of terrorist acts, even when it was unequivocally proved that not only the organizers, but also the performers were Iranian citizens.
Apparently, Reuters quotes the unclassified part of the report. Information on all the terrorist attacks or attempted terrorist attacks were published in the Israeli media. The militants managed to carry out two terrorist attacks: the car bombing of an employee of the Israeli diplomatic mission in New Delhi (the wife of the military attache was injured) and the bus explosion with Israeli tourists in Burgas (six killed, more than 30 injured).
The report also mentions a statement by the representative of Israeli Prime Minister Mark Regev, who last year announced 20’s attempts by Iranians to carry out terrorist attacks against Israelis abroad, involving at least five Iranians and two Hezbollah agents.
Reuters quotes a senior American law enforcement officer who notes that the preparation of terrorist attacks against Israelis and Jewish sites outside of Israel has clearly become more thoughtful. After the bus explosion in Burgas, security measures were tightened around Jewish sites in the United States (earlier, security measures were strengthened around such facilities in Bulgaria and other European countries). In the US, they fear that the IRGC is preparing terrorist attacks on American territory against the background of tougher sanctions against Iran and increased likelihood of a military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The report of the police in New York analyzes the explosive devices that were used in the preparation of terrorist attacks against Israelis abroad this year. “Insufficient sophistication” of explosive devices is noted: easily identifiable plastic and magnetic bombs of a military type were used that were activated by remote control, or “coarse but effective tactics of pin installation on a hand grenade” (this is a known method when the fuse the grenades are partially sawn off, the rest is bent, a pin is inserted into the place of the safety slip, to which the fishing line is attached, providing a “platoon”).
We note in this connection that shortly after the explosion in Burgas, the Al-Manar TV channel belonging to Hezbollah stated that grenades had exploded on the bus with Israeli tourists. The Bulgarian special services were surprised by this “awareness” of this channel, since no details about the type of explosive device were published.
When attempting to escape in Bangkok, Iranian militants also used improvised explosive devices based on hand grenades.
As of the morning of July 21, it is known that the identity of the terrorist who blew up the bus in Burgas is established. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria reported that we are talking about a foreign citizen. The name has not been disclosed yet, as possible accomplices are being sought. An explosive device with a capacity of 7 kg TNT was in his backpack. It is not known whether the terrorist deliberately fired the bomb while he was on the bus himself, or whether it was a “work accident”.
