The Russian military intends to use the most successful American experience in reforming the Armed Forces of Russia and are ready to share their knowledge with overseas partners, including in the field of warfare in Afghanistan. This was announced by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, General of the Army Nikolai Makarov, who begins on Tuesday a three-day working visit to the United States.
He said that in large-scale transformations of its Armed Forces Russia uses the experience of other states. The general noted that the US Army has implemented a lot of interesting decisions related to the daily training and equipping of troops, the organization of personnel training, and the social protection of servicemen. This experience is being studied; if it is applicable to Russian realities, then it is used. In many cases, American partners are ready for such interaction, they respond positively to requests from the Russian side, Makarov said.
As an example, Makarov mentioned the formation of a new structure in the Russian Armed Forces - the military police. "In this area, the US experience is useful for us," he said. "The military police in the United States was established a long time ago. It effectively accomplishes the task of maintaining law and order among military personnel. Therefore, we are interested to learn from the experience of training instructors who would later train personnel for the military police military education of the Russian Defense Ministry, of course, by adapting this experience to specific Russian realities. "
The chief of the General Staff also said that the Americans are showing genuine interest in the Soviet experience of warfare in Afghanistan. The task of preventing personnel losses during the withdrawal of troops from the country, while maintaining security in the region, is a priority for the United States. Makarov assured that Russia is ready to share experience in this matter, ITAR-TASS reports.
