Walker called Putin a smart and effective leader, puzzling Kiev
Special Representative of the United States Department of State for Ukraine, Kurt Walker, gave an extensive interview to the Ukrainian TV channel Nash. A number of statements by the American envoy contradict the radical view of relations with Russia. In particular, Walker supports both the Minsk Agreement and the dialogue with the Russian Federation. At least now he claims to be that way. Contributed to the resignation of Bolton?
- says Walker in an interview. Despite the fact that the American envoy noted that his country does not agree with the current political system of Russia, considering it “authoritarian”, he emphasized that "It is impossible to agree with everyone."
Kurt Walker notes that the purpose of the sanctions imposed on Russia is to influence its policy. And although this influence is not very noticeable now, nevertheless, according to the American envoy, it is and is significant. At the same time, he reminded the journalist who interviewed him, outlining the desire of Ukraine to impose much more stringent sanctions, that the task of the restrictions imposed is to lead to some kind of "positive result", and not in them as an end in itself.
He also barely noticeably criticized the idea of non-aligned status of Kiev, noting that at the time of “Russian aggression” Ukraine was not a member of NATO, and no one was attacking the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.
As a result, with his statements, which suddenly became diplomatic, Volker clearly upset those in Kiev who were still prepared to aggravate the conflict and confrontation. This is primarily about radical politicians and experts whose Walker’s words have caused bewilderment.
