The Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill on extending the contract service life to 10 years in the 1 reading

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading a bill relating to amendments to the law "On Military Duty and Military Service". The amendments to the Ukrainian law relate to a number of parameters, one of which is a twofold increase in the service life of the contract.
So, the bill provides for an increase in the life of the contract from five years to 10-ty.
Experts have already appreciated this initiative, noting that it can significantly reduce the number of Ukrainians who want to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense or other law enforcement agencies. Some Ukrainians called the twofold increase in the contract service life a “recruitment set”.
Other ideas relate to deserters. In particular, it is proposed to exclude from the composition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine those who arbitrarily leave the location of troops, as well as to deprive such people of the material payments made by military personnel. Those who leave the location of the units and are recognized as such by the court will be deprived of the social guarantees that are prescribed in the laws.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian soldier who participated in the war in the Donbass, who recently threatened to blow up a bridge in Kiev, is ready to be sent to a psychiatric clinic for treatment.
The bill also provides for inspections of draftees - to obtain information on whether they had criminal prosecution. This norm may seem strange, but in Ukraine there is still no “institution” of verification of conscripts by the military enlistment offices for their criminal record or other restrictions stipulated by the criminal procedure legislation. That is, almost everyone could fall into the service of the Ukrainian army, regardless of their attitude to the norms of the criminal code.
Soon the second reading of the bill in the Verkhovna Rada will take place.
