1942 Summer Campaign Inscribed in history World War II as a failed campaign of the Supreme Military Command of the USSR.
During this period, the Red Army suffered serious defeats one after another: the tragedy of the second shock army near Leningrad, the death of Soviet troops in Crimea, the heavy defeat near Kharkov, where the Nazis managed to break through our front. It is also a failure of the Kerch operation, the defeat of our troops near Voronezh.
As a result, the strategic initiative continued to remain in the hands of the enemy, who transferred powerful military resources and launched a rapid large-scale attack on the southern sector of the Soviet-German front: the Caucasus and Stalingrad. The operation, which was carried out by Hitler and his field marshals in this direction, was called “Blau” - “Blue” (“Blue”). The Nazis had high hopes for it and were almost sure of a positive outcome for themselves.
The guest of the “Archival Revolution” project, military historian, candidate of historical sciences Alexei Isaev, will explain why the summer campaign of the 1942 of the year turned out to be a failure for the command of the Red Army, why Hitler and his staff decided to abandon the capture of Moscow and Leningrad and aimed at Stalingrad and the Caucasus, which the German command of Operation Blau wanted to achieve goals and what military resources it used to carry it out.
