From Italy there are reports of a powerful explosion at a refinery. According to preliminary data, an explosion occurred at one of Eni's refineries.
This factory is located in northeast Italy. Footage from the scene in Sannadzaro de Burgondi shows a column of black smoke rising hundreds of meters. Eyewitnesses observe the spread of smoke from a distance of tens of kilometers.
Extinguishing the fire was hampered by the fact that large volumes of toxic substances — products of the burning of crude oil and gasoline — were released into the atmosphere.
Local media report that the explosion occurred at a plant near 6: 35 local time. Alarm sirens after the incident roared for at least an hour. Residents of nearby settlements called for evacuation.
According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred on the so-called gasification installation.
If you believe the representatives of the municipality, then at the moment the consequences of the explosion are eliminated, and the company is returning to normal operation. At the same time, there is no data on what caused the explosion at the plant of the Italian energy company.
Mayor of Roberto Zucca:
We continue to monitor and investigate. I want to reassure citizens. There are no threats to life now.
