Trump demanded that Denmark significantly increase military spending on NATO
The US president accused the "rich" Denmark of insufficiently funding the costs allocated to the North Atlantic alliance, demanding that the Danish government pay much more for the "provided incredible military protection." To Trump's ambassadors, Copenhagen spends on defense only 1,35% of GDP instead of the required 2%.
- declared Trump.
He said that the US spending on protecting Europe from a possible attack is much more than the costs of the European states themselves, calling it "injustice"
- stressed Trump.
Earlier, trump criticized Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who called the US idea to buy Greenland an absurdity, and canceled an official visit to Denmark scheduled for September 2-3.
Last week it became known that the US administration was seriously discussing the option of including the largest island in the world of Greenland in the United States, considering options for its purchase. The idea was initiated by US President Donald Trump himself, who was very interested in this island. Later it became known that the United States was ready to pay Denmark 600 million dollars annually for the rental of the island.
The Danish government denied the transfer of Greenland to the United States. This decision was supported by the European Union.
