Lukashenko discovered Latin America
However, idle speculation remained idle, firstly, because Venezuela was not the only item of the Belarusian president’s foreign tour, and, secondly, because during this tour there were more highly effective economic agreements, rather than the West’s “anti-democratic” insinuations.
Speaking about the visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Venezuela, it is worth noting that while politicians and political analysts who are too concerned about the political “regimes” in these countries are trying to look for another reason, Venezuelan and Belarusian presidents have decided to show that Under conditions one of the most effective methods of confronting international economic and political turmoil is close partnership cooperation on the platform of economic pragmatics.
In addition to the fact that more than 8 dozens of joint projects are already operating between Belarus and Venezuela, new contracts have been signed. Now there will be factories in Venezuela that will, on the basis of a license issued by Belarusians, produce MAZ vehicles and MTZ tractors. It is planned that the annual production volume, which will not be screwdriver, will be 5000 units - for MAZ and 10 thousand - for MTZ. Such production will cover the internal needs of Venezuela in this kind of technology.
The Belarusian and Venezuelan leaders agreed that experts from the Republic of Belarus will build a thermal power plant with a capacity of 600 MW, which will be located in the Santa Ynez industrial cluster. In addition, Belarusian specialists will take an active part in laying the gas pipeline between Barquisimeto and Barinas. The length of this gas artery will exceed 200 km. The cooperation of Venezuelans and Belarusians in terms of the implementation of a joint production project aimed at obtaining agricultural fertilizers under the new "green" program emerges.
By the Belarusian Ministry of Finance, the total amount of contracts concluded by the leaders of the two countries is estimated at about 5 billion dollars. In today's unstable economic environment, such agreements between Belarus and Venezuela can be called truly meaningful.
In connection with the Belarusian success in the Venezuelan market, a lot of criticism has appeared in the Russian press. And this criticism was connected not with the fact that Lukashenka “takes away” Venezuela from Russia, but with the fact that Russia itself calmed down early on, having reached certain economic agreements with South American partners. Citing all the critical arguments about the weak activity of the Russian state and business in the Venezuelan market to a common denominator, we can say that the essence of criticism is that while Russia views Venezuela mainly as a partner in energy projects, as well as a market for arms sales. At the same time, many people refer to contracts for the supply of Russian AvtoVAZ products to Caracas as a kind of curtsy on the Kremlin from Hugo Chavez, because the Russian authorities support the Venezuelan president both orally and in the form of billions in loans. Whether this criticism will push the Russian authorities to a new stage in the development of the South American market is an open question.
In general, the visit of the Belarusian leader to Venezuela has once again demonstrated that the best impetus for state development and partnership between the countries is active trade. At the same time, Lukashenka said, as they say, “on camera”, that the authorities of Belarus and Venezuela are not friends at all against someone, but wish their states to prosper.
Recall that Venezuela was not the only point marked on the map of visits of the Belarusian president.
During his visit to Cuba, which took place before the Belarusian leader arrived in Caracas, Lukashenka held talks with Raul Castro. At the talks, the topics of pragmatic cooperation were not taken separately from Belarus and Cuba, but from Belarus and Cuba as members of interstate structures, such as the Common Economic Space of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, as well as supranational economic groups in Latin America. If you combine the potentials of these organizations, the trade turnover may increase significantly. It is to such an assessment that economists, who discuss the visit of the Belarusian president to Havana, are inclined.
Agreements were reached on joint projects in the field of bioengineering and other high-tech sectors of health and agriculture. It is noteworthy that part of the Belarusian delegation stayed in Havana even after Lukashenko went to visit Hugo Chavez. The Belarusians were interested in the developments that are being conducted in Cuba in the sphere of new approaches to the rational use of bioresources. It can be expected that in the near future there will be a new series of economic contracts between Belarusian and Cuban enterprises operating in the field of high technologies.
28 June Lukashenko arrived in the capital of Ecuador - the city of Quito. And here the first place was occupied by the issues of economic cooperation. Even before the arrival of the leader of Belarus to Ecuador, it was known that one of the issues to be discussed at the meeting was the question of abolishing the visa regime between Belarus and Ecuador. Lukashenko said that the presence of visa barriers is one of the reasons that the trade turnover between the two countries over the past year amounted to just 47 million dollars.
For Belarus, the development of the Ecuadorian market is very promising, because in this Latin American country economic indicators are similar in level with Belarus (which means that Belarusian goods may be in demand here), and besides, the growth of Ecuador’s GDP according to the IMF last year amounted to not many Not a little, 8%. Belarus will be interested in promoting its agricultural and road-building equipment, machinery, equipment for the production of electronics and optics to the Ecuadorian market, President Lukashenko said during a meeting with Ecuadorian leader Rafael Correa Delgado. Delgado, in turn, said that cooperation between the two countries is just beginning, and we should expect great prospects from it.
As a result, the Belarusian leader once again showed what effective ways he has to overcome EU sanctions, because in the world besides this very European Union there are enough other territories with which you can conduct reasonable trade.
