Hamas large intelligence network disclosed in the secret services of the Palestinian Authority
During the espionage operation, HAMAS managed to recruit dozens of security officers who became agents of the movement. The tasks entrusted to them included collecting information about planned actions against Hamas in the West Bank, supplying disinformation to create a false picture of events and provoking conflict situations. The network was exposed and everyone involved was sent to prison. At least, this is the information provided by the Israeli resource Ynet.
Last year, the Islamic Resistance Movement developed and carried out a large-scale operation to introduce the Palestinian Authority into the security forces. Hamas was able to recruit agents in the ranks of officers and employees, and their number was in the tens. This complex plan, conceived by the Hamas leadership in Gaza and abroad, was uncovered several months ago.
Several high-ranking sources in the Palestinian Authority reported to the Israeli resource Ynet mentioned that the Hamas plan was exposed by the Palestinian military counterintelligence. After his exposure, the Palestinian Authority replaced all the heads of the security forces, and a secret investigation was opened, the purpose of which was to identify all the "moles" that had penetrated into the services of Autonomy.
The Palestinian security forces are responsible, in particular, for the extremely sensitive security coordination that relates to Israel, and for the destruction of the military and civilian infrastructure of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the West Bank.
According to the same sources, officers recruited into Hamas were asked to transfer secret information about the various plans of the security forces to the Gaza Strip, as well as about the planned missions and operations against the Hamas infrastructure in the West Bank. Some were asked to disseminate disinformation in order to destroy the objectivity of the intelligence appraisal, as well as, if possible, to stir up conflicts and power struggles that exist between high-ranking officials in the apparatuses.
The investigation showed that Hamas managed to simultaneously penetrate into several structures, in some cases these were extremely painful blows. Among the Palestinian officers recruited by the organization were representatives of counterintelligence and preventive security services, which are the most important organizations responsible for the security and information of the first persons and exercising control over what is happening on the territory of the West Bank. Agents were also found among national security forces, military intelligence, Palestinian police and civil defense forces.
Sources pointed out that the methods of recruiting Hamas varied. In a number of cases, the fact of having relatives in Gaza was used: Hamas detained relatives of Palestinian officers and used this fact as a method of pressure. A number of security forces officers trite bribed.
As part of the investigation, dozens of people were arrested, all of them are currently imprisoned by the Palestinian Authority. Their arrest was kept secret. Autonomy Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and the top management of Ramallah were constantly informed about the progress of the investigation.
In 2006, in the elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council, Hamas defeated the Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine (FATH), the party that formed the basis of the Palestinian Authority, receiving 74 from the 132 mandates.
In 2007, Hamas took power in Gaza, overthrowing PA representatives and destroying at least 118 Fatah members. 550 was injured, many were imprisoned and tortured, at the moment in the autonomy of de facto established dual power.
