Consolation by level of education: “Things are worse in Europe”
Meanwhile, the authors of the issue “Time-Forward!” Do not rush to exaggerate the state of modern Russian education. To create a more complete picture, they decide to look at the educational situation in other countries. In itself, a somewhat strange formulation of the question is an assessment of the level of education in one’s own country, based on the level of education in other countries.
It turned out that, for example, in the Scandinavian countries, as well as in the UK and Italy, the level of mathematical skills is much lower than in Russia. Teaching mathematics in the Italian and British schools, according to research by the University of Cambridge, leads to the formation of the so-called “panic attack”, that is, fear of this subject in primary and secondary school students. In this regard, in order not to injure the child's psyche, researchers advise schools to transfer students to an easier mathematical level of learning.
At the same time, the authors of the video for some reason did not compare the level of modern education in Russia with the Chinese, South Korean, Singaporean - with the level of those countries that actually took Soviet educational experience as a basis.
Why focus on those whose level of education is worse? Is this a consolation?
What are the causes of such similar problems in education in Russia and Europe? The Russian journalist of American origin Tim Kerby will share his thoughts on the difference in approaches.
