US Navy writes off USS "Harry S. Truman" nuclear carrier
According to the American edition, in case the US Congress adopts a new budget for the American fleet the following year, the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman will be decommissioned and disposed of until 2024. The reason is simple - the lack of money for maintenance. According to the Pentagon, if instead of the planned repair in 2024 with the reloading of the aircraft carrier’s reactors, it will be decommissioned, this will save $ 6,5 billion, and taking into account the costs of its operation until the end of service in 2048, up to 30 billion.
This decision is supported in the US Navy. According to Vice-Admiral Randy Cretes, this will allow "freeing up new financial opportunities for the implementation of other projects."
The atomic aircraft carrier USS "Harry S. Truman" (CVN-75) is the eighth in a series of 10 ships of the Nimitz type (Nimitz) US Navy. Launched on November 29 1993 of the year, launched on September 07 1996 of the year. He joined the US Navy 25 July 1998 of the year.
According to the accepted naval doctrine of the United States, the American fleet must have in its composition 12 aircraft carriers. Today, the Navy has 11 ships of this class: the 10 of the Nimitz type and the lead aircraft carrier of the new generation Gerald R. Ford. Two aircraft carriers of the new type are under construction, their commissioning is scheduled for the second half of the 20-s. Two more aircraft carriers: the ancestor of the Nimitz and George HW Bush series are under repair.
