Klimkin announced the possibility of a forceful response "under the UN Charter"
According to Klimkin, Kiev is going to seek a diplomatic reaction to the “aggravation” in the Sea of Azov and reserves the right to a forceful response: to use forces and means for self defense.
UNIAN gives the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine:
This, according to the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, is about the use of force "for self-defense."
In 16: 00 Kiev time, the Verkhovna Rada will hold a meeting on the imposition of martial law in the country, which is already supported by the National Security Council and the president of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Petro Poroshenko is negotiating with the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk, regarding the situation with the Ukrainian boats and tugs detained by Russia. After Rada has considered the issue of martial law, Poroshenko plans to talk on the phone with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Against this background, the National Bank of Ukraine presented its views on what to expect on the country's foreign exchange market in the event of the introduction of the EAP. The NBU board stated that “they do not see any risks,” since the liquidity of the banking sector of Ukraine amounts to 75 billion UAH (about 2,7 billion dollars), and the volume of Ukraine’s international reserves - 17,8 billion dollars.
Independent economists are less optimistic. The NBU leadership was reminded that the Ukrainian reserves have long ceased to be reserves and, in fact, are the collateral amount that guarantees Western financial and credit organizations Kiev payment of interest on loans. In other words, it’s unlikely that Kiev’s direct creditors will manage to dispose of these $ 17,8 billion.
