Hero of Russia Wolf Vitaly Alexandrovich
Vitaly was born on July 14 1972, in the small village of Malinovsky, in the Altai Territory, and grew up in the town of Yarovoye. When Vitaly turned 18 years, he was called up for service in the Airborne Forces. The fighter had a chance to get to the famous 345 th Guards detached parachute regiment stationed in the Azerbaijani city of Ganja, and since August 1992, he took part in a peacekeeping operation in the area of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. It was then that Vitaly expressed a desire to remain in the regiment for long service.
Immediately after the regiment is transferred to Abkhazia, the task is to ensure the safe evacuation of Russian citizens from the conflict zone and the protection of important military facilities. Among such facilities was a seismological laboratory located in the Lower Eschers.
The protection of the laboratory was entrusted to the 7th parachute company. On the ill-fated evening of March 27, 1993, Vitaly was engaged in providing communication with the object. In 22.30, Georgian troops opened heavy fire on the object from mortars and artillery. The explosions damaged the line of communication for which Vitaly was responsible. The lives of his comrades are under even more serious threat, because, having lost contact, the company could not transmit information about the beginning of the shelling to the Task Force of the Airborne Forces located in Gudauta. Understanding perfectly what a loss of communication threatens the company, Vitaly fearlessly rushed to eliminate the problem. Communication has been restored. Vitaly managed ... He managed, even despite the most severe wound to the head. The company was saved: to the place of the unfolding drama came the helicopters of the fire support caused by the communication restored by the hero. According to the testimonies of the rescued fighters, a piece of land of no more than a hectare was literally dug up by countless craters, on the walls of the laboratory buildings there were countless marks from fragments of shells.
For his accomplishment, senior sergeant Vitaly Wolf was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Russia, and a street in his hometown Yarovoye was named after him. Vitaly's parents cherish the bright memory of his son, and his Golden Star, without a doubt, has become their main family heirloom.
The Hero of Russia was buried in his hometown of Yarovoye, Slavgorod District of the Altai Territory. In memory of the hero, a memorial plaque was installed on the building of the school №14, where Vitaly studied. The fond memory of Senior Sergeant Wolf and his feat is kept not only by his relatives and countrymen, but also by the veterans of the regiment in which he served and one of the heroes of which was - 345-th Guards separate parachute regiment.
