The Latvian army may soon be replenished with four US-made helicopters. The US Department of State has approved the possible sale of four UH-60M Black Hawk (Black Hawk) multi-purpose military helicopters to Riga, the United States Defense and Security Cooperation Agency reports.
According to the report, the amount of the transaction, the component of 200 million, besides the four UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, also includes related equipment, which is not specified. There is also no information what kind of helicopters will be delivered to Latvia - new or from the presence of the US Army.
As stated in the agency, the approved possible sale of helicopters is aimed at supporting US foreign policy and internal security, as well as the security of a NATO ally. These four helicopters will significantly increase Latvia’s ability to deploy troops, anti-terrorist activities, supplies and combat support in any weather.
The Latvian defense ministry said they intend to use these helicopters to modernize their armed forces and ensure NATO’s multinational mission in the Baltic region.
