Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev after the meeting of the Russian government, held on Thursday, said that the Cabinet had made the final decision to raise the retirement age for Russians.
According to the Prime Minister, the reform of the pension system will take place in several stages and will begin with 2019. During the implementation of pension reform, it is planned to achieve retirement for men in 65 years to 2028, for women it is planned to achieve retirement in 63 years to 2034. It was on this version of the retirement age that they decided to stay in the Russian government: 65 years for men and 63 for women. For some categories of citizens, the existing pension benefits will be maintained. Medvedev also added that employees with great experience will be able to retire two years ahead of schedule.
In a statement, the prime minister said that the decision on pension reform was long overdue and the upcoming reform would be aimed at raising the level of pensions above inflation.
Recall that earlier the government discussed two more options for raising the retirement age proposed by the Ministry of Labor: for men up to 65 years, for women - up to 60 or to 62 and 64 years, respectively.
