Why is the United States so frantic about what is happening near Damascus?
Now all the world's attention is focused in the suburbs of the Syrian capital. In Eastern Ghouta, the Syrian army, supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces, is conducting an operation against militants firmly entrenched there. As in the case of Aleppo, the Western media have already begun to blame the "Syrian regime" and the Russian army for the destruction of civilians living in this area. But the importance of Eastern Guta for the United States and the collective West as a whole is significantly greater than Aleppo.
This area is in close proximity to Damascus. If we draw an analogy, it is near Moscow Khimki. Being so close to the Syrian capital, terrorists have the opportunity to bombard the city, including government offices. Not once did the Russian embassy come under attack.
Moreover, the pro-Western forces concentrated here very combat-ready forces, which at any time could launch an offensive against Damascus.
