Lutsenko spoke about the obstacles to the extradition of Saakashvili to Georgia
Lutsenko said that after Saakashvili’s illegal return to Ukraine, the prosecution authorities began an extradition check. According to him, the check should establish whether Saakashvili is really suspected or accused in Georgia of particularly serious crimes and whether there are circumstances that prevent his extradition.
10, deprived of his Ukrainian citizenship of Saakashvili, with the support of supporters, broke through the cordons of border guards and law enforcement officers at the Shegini checkpoint and entered the territory of Ukraine from Poland. A case was initiated on five articles, including the organization of the illegal transfer of persons across the border and resistance to law enforcement.
Saakashvili said he did not break the law while crossing the border and intends to defend his Ukrainian citizenship in court. At the beginning of September, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine announced that Kiev had received a request from Tbilisi about the search, taking into custody and extradition of Saakashvili, and that the ministry referred Georgia’s request to the country's Prosecutor General’s Office for an extradition check, reports RIA News.
