Domesticated: UN vs scandalous site
The scandalous site “Peacemaker”, where blacklists of “enemies of Ukraine” are formed and other people's personal data are published, has repeatedly been the focus of attention in connection with dramatic, and even tragic, incidents. People made to the base of the Peacemaker often had trouble of varying degrees: from unwanted calls and threatening spam to a bullet that caught up near their own home. The “world community” was silent: “young democracy,” like, has the right to play. Even - with other people's lives ...
Russia has repeatedly appealed to international structures demanding an end to the functioning of the punitive site. But only once did a quiet, timid condemnation come from there - when it came to the Western journalists who worked in the Donetsk People's Republic. Then the site was even closed for several days. But it was soon reopened - “at the request of the public,” as its creators and patrons declared, the most prominent of which is Anton Gerashchenko, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada and a member of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
But it seems that the string is not curled long. From the UN, there was an urgent recommendation to the Ukrainian authorities to investigate the activities of this site.
A request to remove the personal data of people from universal access was requested by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. This is stated in a special report on violations of rights and freedoms in Ukraine. The document was published in Geneva on September 12.
Two days before the UN statement, 10 of September, Peacemaker sold outright and counted the former president of Georgia, the ex-governor of the Odessa region, ex-citizen Mikhail Saakashvili as the enemies of Ukraine for illegal border crossing. A few hours later, in the same “warm company”, she turned out (for aiding Mr. Saakashvili) - who would have thought? - the famous "orange princess" Yulia Tymoshenko. Here who did not think, did not guess to appear in this base!
Of course, the consequences for different people who are on the “Peacemaker” blacklist are different. For citizens of Russia and the DPR, who actively support Novorossia and do not plan to visit Ukraine, this is already something of a recognition of their merits. They proudly talk about it (although someone “catches” phone calls in the middle of the night). In Donetsk, they even organized the release of badges with the inscription: “I am at Peacekeeper, and these badges are in demand.
For artists and other media individuals on the hit list for visiting Donbas and Crimea, this is even a certain moment of PR. Although at the same time they get a ban on entry into the Ukrainian territory and, thus, inevitably lose part of their audience. But, one should think, the decision to visit the Crimea, and especially Donbass, is made by these people consciously, with an understanding of all the consequences.
But it is unlikely, for example, employees involved in building the bridge across the Kerch Strait need such “fame” ... But the creators of the punitive site are even struggling with them, with simple hard workers. And - even with those who have nothing to do with Ukraine at all, but participate in the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria. They, too, have been declared “enemies of Ukraine”, which in this matter actually stands in solidarity with (banned in the Russian Federation) “Islamic State”.
The hardest thing, however, is for those people who remain in Ukraine or are forced by life to go there. For them, getting to the “Peacemaker” is a real tragedy, because it creates a real threat to freedom, health and even life. For example, Donetsk residents, who have elderly relatives behind the front line, - visiting them, do not know whether they will return home ...
But for the time being, until the time, the international structures were not too much interested in this state of affairs, really breaking people’s lives. Not very much impressed by the murder of Oles Buzin and Oleg Kalashnikov, the suspicious "suicides" of the regionals, the strange death of Irina Berezhnaya, the kidnapping and expulsion of the Russian journalist Anna Kurbatova (although not, in the latter case, there were still timid convictions).
And then suddenly such people as Saakashvili and Tymoshenko appear on the site - and from the UN there should be a clear signal: to close the Peacemaker.
You can, of course, say: they say, the report was prepared in advance. But right now, after stories with the ex-president of Georgia, the document was given a move. Too much right moment selected.
For these two media figures, however, hitting the “Peacemaker” hardly threatens with something significant. Rather, on the contrary, it is an element of their PR. Now they act as "fighters against the Poroshenko regime."
The same report, published by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, contains other “interesting” places. It talks about the illegal deprivation of civil liberty, and the incessant shelling in the Donbas, and discrimination in Ukraine of the residents of Donetsk and Lugansk ...
Thus, it seems, the UN took up the Poroshenko regime in earnest. Of course, this does not mean that the “world community” will finally condemn “Maidan” and everything that followed it. Perhaps, for the time being, it is impossible to state unequivocally that Mr. Poroshenko is being “drained”. But at least he is given a clear signal: it can be replaced. And spare figures are already available. One of these "figures" recently illegally, with scandal and a scuffle, crossed the border, while the other contributed to this. In this case, how can the West not intervene for its own ones, who are still sitting on the bench?
PS And, as it became known, the representative of the US State Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker actually took the side of Saakashvili, strongly recommending not to delay the latter. Which again confirms: it was not by chance that in the West they began to protect this “sweet couple”. Apparently, Peter Alekseevich and his team should prepare ...
