In the coming years, the US Navy will receive additional protection against anti-ship missiles. Press office Corporation Lockheed Martin reports that the prototype of the complex of electronic warfare AN / ALQ-248, developed for helicopters of type MH-60, completed the passage of the first phase of testing. According to the developers, the creation of a promising EW system is proceeding according to the previously approved schedule.

New EW systems will allow launches of enemy anti-ship missiles and transfer information to the ship’s on-board systems. The command of the US Navy believes that the presence of such systems on a helicopter will make it possible to record the launch of missiles much earlier, and also more accurately track their trajectories already at the initial stage of movement. In the event that a rocket threatens the ship, the EW system activates countermeasure systems (for example, by creating a false electronic signal).
The AOEW AMP AN / ALQ-248 complex is designed as a suspension container for MH-60R or MH-60S helicopters (anti-submarine and multi-purpose modification of Seahawk helicopters). In this case, the system operates autonomously from the on-board electronics of the helicopter and does not require pilot intervention. If necessary, the new EW complex can "mask" missile launches from American ships. The complex can operate autonomously or in conjunction with the onboard system of the ship, giving it the ability to respond early to threats. Representatives of the company Lockheed Martin indicate that the mass production of AOEW AMP AN / ALQ-248 will be established before the 2019 year, and by the 2021 year, the complexes will be installed on US Navy helicopters, reports "Warspot"
