Riga District Court sentenced two Russians for infiltrating 2015 in the summer to the Adazi military base for terms that they had already departed earlier, reports Interfax-AVN.
Andrey Popko and Alexander Kurkin
Latvian opposition leader Vladimir Linderman, who was in a company with citizens of the Russian Federation, was accused of complicity with hooliganism, and was acquitted.
According to the lawyer of convicted Russians Imma Jansone, “Alexander Kurkin and Andrey Popko were sentenced to 3 months and 27 days of imprisonment”. This time they have already departed in the detention facility. Both of them are denied entry to the republic for several years.
Despite the fact that neither Popko nor Kurakina will ever have to go to jail, the lawyer intends to appeal the verdict in the district court.
Recall the incident at Adazi base occurred in 2015 year. According to investigators, the citizens of Russia with the help of Linderman from hooligan motives illegally penetrated a military object. This happened during the military exercise Saber Strike-2015, which was attended by American military personnel.
At first, the detainees were suspected of espionage and “attempting to commit a terrorist act”, but later their actions were retrained as hooliganism.
