According to various estimates, 2000 – 2500 copies of the BMP-2 and various military vehicles at its base were assembled in India. The production of cars was carried out at the plant Medak Ordnance Factor, which is now the main contractor for the contract.

For the first time, plans to modernize the Saratov BMP were announced by the Indian Defense Ministry ten years ago, planning to involve private Indian companies in this. For several reasons, the tender was postponed, after which the military department signed a contract worth 24 billion rupees ($ 370 million) with state-owned companies Ordnance Factory Board and Bharat Electronics Ltd.
In the course of modernization, Sarath’s BMPs will receive new 380 engines. with. (instead of 285-strong power plants), third-generation guided anti-tank missiles, new fire control systems, panoramic sights (including night vision).
Complete the upgrade of the first batch of infantry fighting vehicles planned for 2 – 3 of the year, after which the military will consider upgrading the remaining Sarath vehicles in service with the Indian army.
