It became known that the current US ambassador to Russia, John Tefft, would soon officially resign. According to the latest data, Tefft is finalizing the last months in the American embassy in the Russian capital. Deputy John Tefft at the ambassadorial work, Lynn Tracy, said that Mr. Tefft would go home this September.
During a reception on the occasion of the US Independence Day, organized by the US Embassy in Moscow, Tracy read a telegram from Rex Tillerson, the head of the US State Department. In the telegram, Ambassador Tefft thanks for "many years of service in the interests of the American people."
RIA News cites a statement by John Tefft himself about his formal resignation:
I will miss my friends who I have here - in Russia - were and appeared during my work. We will not forget you. (hereinafter - in Russian) Thank you, goodbye.
The phrase "we will not forget you" sounds particularly significant.
Earlier it was reported that one of the most likely candidates for the post of US ambassador to Russia is 57-year-old John Huntsman. He graduated from the universities of Utah and Pennsylvania. Engaged in missionary work as a member of a Mormon group in Taiwan. He worked as an ambassador in Singapore and China, served as Assistant Secretary of State. Huntsman is considered one of the conductors of mass protests in Hong Kong. After the unrest in Hong Kong subsided, Huntsman departed in the United States, where he first put forward his candidacy in the Republican primary elections, and then withdrew his candidacy in favor of Mitt Romney.
