The launch of the most powerful at this time Chinese carrier rocket Changzheng-5 (The Great March-5) was unsuccessful today, reports RIA News message agency "Xinhua."
Earlier, representatives of the Wenchang cosmodrome in Hainan Province reported favorable weather for a rocket launch. A few hours ago, there were reports in the media about the successful launch of the Changzheng-5 launch vehicle with the Shijian-18 telecommunications satellite.
According to the agency, “problems appeared soon after launch”. About what exactly the problem in question, is not specified. There are no official comments yet.
This is the second launch for Changzheng-5 heavy launch vehicles.
The previous (first of six) Shijian telecommunications satellite was launched into orbit in mid-April with the help of the carrier Changzheng-3B.
The grouping of these satellites is intended to provide high-speed Internet for transport, including on airplanes and trains.
"Changzheng-5" is a Chinese booster of a new generation. Its height is 56,97 m, the diameter of the main stage is 5 m. It is able to put 25 tons of cargo into low near-earth orbit.
