The fight of opponents of renaming Vatutin Avenue to Shukhevych Avenue began at the Moscow Bridge, whose name also infuriates the Ukrainian radicals. They are indignant at the fact that the Moscow Bridge does not fall under the law on decommunization, and therefore other legislative initiatives are needed to rename it.
It is known that 1 June 2017, the Kiev city council voted to rename the prospect of General Nikolai Vatutin to Roman Shukhevych Avenue. 12 June, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv, before considering the case, forbade the City Council to sign and publish this decision.
Protesters against renaming the avenue hung a Ukrainian flag on the bridge with the inscription “Kievans for Vatutin”.
As a result of the fights, several opponents of renaming the avenue were seriously injured. For a long time, the national police did not mix up in a brawl.
