Excursion to the destroyer of the Baltic Fleet "Restless"

22

The other day, the Ministry of Defense organized a press tour on one of the ships of the Baltic fleet. It should be noted that such trips for journalists and bloggers to military units are carried out quite regularly, but the opportunity to visit a warship is a rarity. At least for the simple reason that around Moscow with the seas it is somehow sparse. Therefore, without further ado, I went to Kaliningrad.

The destroyer “Restless” is based in the harbor of the city of Baltiysk - the most western city of Russia. Until 1946, the city was called Pillau, and the military base was used by the German submarine fleet. Currently, the naval base Baltiysk is the main base of the Baltic Fleet.

"Restless" - the destroyer of the third generation, the project 956. The first of the ships of this series, "Modern", was commissioned in 1981, the last was launched in 1992. In total, the 22 of the ship was laid, currently 9 remains in the Russian Navy, of which 4 are in reserve or under repair. "Restless" was built in 1992, the last time went to sea three years ago, and is now in reserve, waiting for scheduled maintenance and upgrades.

Nevertheless, this is a full-fledged warship with its crew, the board of which is decorated with three big stars. This is not the designation of enemy ships sunk, as many mistakenly believe, but the awards of the commander-in-chief of the Navy.

More information about the ship itself: the length of its 156,5 meter (one and a half football fields), width - 17 meters. The autonomy of navigation - 30 days without entering the ports and refueling, provisions reserves, too, enough for exactly one month. The maximum speed is the 33,4 node (about 62 km / h). But the main advantage of the ship is its armament: two Uragan anti-aircraft missile systems capable of striking air targets at altitudes up to 15 km, two twin-speed 130 mm caliber guns, producing 6 tons of metal per minute, four automatic six-barreled 30-mm artillery units AK-630M (eyewitnesses who observed these guns at the "work", claim that their shots cut the metal like butter).

Anti-ship armament includes two quad rocket launchers of the Mosquito complex with a range of up to 170 km. These “smart” cruise missiles are capable of hitting surface targets with a probability of 94 – 99% even if active radio interference is used. Anti-submarine armament includes two twin torpedo tubes, two jet bombs and a rail installation for setting minefields. According to experts, in the case of a direct duel, the destroyer of the 956 project remains the master of the situation in the fight against any surface ship of the world, surpassing even the newest American warships of the next, fourth generation.

The crew of the ship - 296 people in peacetime and 358 - in the military, from this number 25 officers and 48 midshipmen, the rest of the sailors. And here lies the main headache of the sailors. The sailors-conscripts, as well as the soldiers of the ground forces, serve a year. Previously, the period of service in the fleet was three years, then two. All the officers, as one, claim that there is a categorically short year to prepare a specialist on such a technically complex object as a warship. Even if the sailor got caught up, he only has time to master his military specialty and immediately goes to the reserve. Exit the military see one - to increase the number of contractors.

For example, on a nearby patrol ship, the “Yaroslav the Wise”, moored alongside the “Restless” and regularly going on sea voyages, now only contract sailors serve. Of course, this is the right decision. The destroyer commander hopes that after repair and modernization, the Restless will also be fully staffed with professionals. For twenty years of service of the ship, he received on board a multitude of presidents, ministers and admirals: this is evidenced by the book of honored guests, located in a cozy officer's mess room. Among others, there is also an autograph of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of the Queen of Great Britain. And next to it, amid regalia and souvenirs, the ship's cat, Tyom, undisturbedly slumbers.

Informative report. I agree that for a year of service it is very difficult to make a good specialist out of a draftee.

"Informative reportage" - ahah, that's for sure ... another portion of worthless PR for a near-minded schoolboy lol
      1. "built in 1992, last went to sea three years ago, and is now in reserve, awaiting planned repairs and modernization." - and this phrase says EVERYTHING! more and nothing to add laughing
      2. "According to experts, in the event of a direct duel, the Project 956 destroyer remains the master of the situation in the fight against any surface ship in the world, surpassing even the latest American warships of the next, fourth generation." - what is the mental level of development of this phrase? what "specialists"? he can "face" one in 60! "Orly Burkov" ??? it's not even funny anymore .... or one of 22! "Ticonderogo"? tell it all in the first grade to the kids lol
      3. "Sailors-conscripts, like soldiers of the ground forces, serve for a year." - and this phrase is the final FINAL of the story lol more questions about the "killer of everything and everything" NOT AVAILABLE! good

        abyss 8,
In the case of a direct duel, this means if there is no or anti-ship missiles, torpedoes or the like have run out, it will be able to sink any ships with the help of artillery installations like the first and second world wars.
        abyss 8,
I would like to ask you how old are you?

I noticed for a long time that it’s easiest for people like you to crap, I pulled myself a little and everything came out with the gases. Treat flatulence and other incontinence. It’s easiest to destroy, it’s harder to build ... You are on the wrong track.

The situation itself ... it's for children ... I haven’t heard such nonsense for a long time. Well, they haven’t written yet it has no analogues in the world

What a handsome man !!! wink
Is there really no two hundred normal recruits for the crew ?!
How beautiful (and not only beautiful) it would be accompanied by "Admiral Kuznetsov" !!!

I certainly wildly apologize, but Arly-Burke carries from 8 to 56 Tomogavkov. And what is the advantage of the project 956? Do not forget the same idiotic power plant.

      in case of direct duel
Eugene, probably it was a duel, not a quantitative superiority. Power plant, I agree, the last century.

She is not the last century. It is difficult to operate. Gas turbine engines. And Gas Turbine Generators would allow this ship to serve 100%. And so the eternal Medium repair. Alas. I saw how these handsome men stood at the pier of Severomorsk. And plundered on spare parts and pollen.

Tomahawks work on the ground, on surface targets - harpoons, and they are subsonic, unlike mosquitoes get off ...

Kh. There are anti-convulsive tomahawks. Harpoons are subsonic and stray well. Shot down a lot? The harpoon marching section flies at an altitude of 15 m, the target attacks at an altitude of 2-5 m. In addition, it is constantly improving. Just passed by, and then we will throw mosquitoes.

I am not special in naval affairs, but it seems to me that having stood so many years at a joke, this ship will be problematic even to leave the harbor. But there are achievements, a book of honored guests for example.

to drink and feed, to pay salaries, to give apartments for the reason that for 3 years they have been doing nothing and it is not known when 296 people will go to sea. Russia is a rich country.

This is a ship. An example of how the army was given not what it needed, but what the industry wanted to do. An example of the savagery of the Soviet shipbuilding, which built two completely unified destroyer ships and a BOD, which, apart from the other, have zero value as a combat Not only was they built in different buildings (of course, we do not have to order the Ticonderoga and the Spruens!), but also a power plant of this type was put into the destroyer that it "let these destroyers" ( The main motive for this was that it was necessary to take the capacity of the plant producing boiler and turbine installations. They took it ....). So these destroyers serve at the wall. What kind of sea voyages, and even more so battles ...

A sheepskin coat from Yudashkin? Glamorous, already inspired a longing, for -30 you can sleep in the snow - personally checked (without forgetting the cotton coward and cool boots)

The sheepskin coat touched me too. I remembered how a friend on a guard post in such a sheepskin coat, a bronze under it and in a helmet fell from the stairs. I barely scraped it from the ground. So, I thought they would attack the post, what kind of opposition there could be in such vestments? But it’s warm. laughing

Agree with Greyfox. Dying ships. There are only two on the move - "Persistent" at the Baltic Fleet and "Bystry" at the Pacific Fleet, the "Ushakov" (SF) no longer runs.

Of course, the ship is hopelessly outdated and needs overhaul and re-equipment with modern weapons, special, technical means, power plants. Only contracted professionals can operate them. A year later, if you do not do the above, the ship, in its best case, will be in poor condition after an average repair only for the fight against pirates.

I also served on this ship class ship, but 1 year of service is very small. I served 1999 to 2001 and that is not enough.
