The Tochka-U missile system was created to destroy important targets in the enemy’s tactical rear. The missiles of the complex are capable of speeds of 1100 m / s. Their combat units can be nuclear, chemical and conventional (high explosive frag and cluster).

The complex can be brought to combat readiness within two minutes, and a rocket in 136 seconds will deliver a warhead weighing 482 kilograms to a distance of 120 kilometers. The main element of the complex is a solid-propellant ballistic missile 9М79М (9М79-1), which is controlled throughout its flight, from launch to target destruction.
