Swedish fighter «Gripen» in Switzerland received a rating of "unsatisfactory." But they will buy
Swedish-made fighters JAS 39 "Gripen", who won the Swiss tender, do not meet the minimum technical requirements imposed by the Swiss Air Force. The report of the Swiss Air Force Commission, made by 9 on November 2009, was at the disposal of the newspaper Sonntags Zeitung.
According to this report, from 28 July to 5 December 2008, the Swiss Air Force Commission conducted a comparative analysis of three aircraft competing in a tender for the purchase of fighters. Participants in the competition were the following aircraft: 1) "Eurofighter Typhoon"; 2) Rafale of the French company Dassault; 3) Swedish JAS 39 "Gripen" manufactured by Saab.
The winner, in accordance with the terms of the tender, had to score at least 6 points on the 10-scale according to the results of all tests. In 6 points from 10, the F-A-1997 Hornet fighters standing in service with 18 were rated by the Swiss.
The leader of the tests was recognized as the French aircraft "Rafale", who scored 6,98 points (rating of "satisfactory"). Rafale coped with all tasks, including shock, reconnaissance missions and air combat. It should be noted that this aircraft was highly appreciated by the Swiss pilots. The only “weak link” of the fighter, as believed by Swiss experts, is the helmet-mounted information display system.
The second place was taken by “Eurofighter Typhoon”. He won 6,48 points overall. "Typhoon" as a whole successfully passed the tests, but the Swiss specialists did not really like his performance during the conduct of conditional combat. Experts from the commission considered the onboard electronic warfare system to be another weak point of the Typhoon.
But the onboard system of electronic warfare JAS 39 "Gripen" Swiss liked. But the fact is that the Swedish fighter failed to cope with any of the test tasks. In the overall standings, “Gripen” received only 5,33 points - and the rating is “unsatisfactory.” As you can see, he showed the worst result, below six points, in which the outdated F / A-18 "Hornet" was rated.
Despite this failure, in December 2011, the Swiss Ministry of Defense announced Saab's victory in an aircraft tender. According to Sonntags Zeitung, the decisive role in choosing the military was not at all technical indicators, but ... the cost of the fighter. As experts suggest, twenty-two Swedish aircraft will cost the Swiss in 2,5-2,8 billion francs (2,7-3,0 billion dollars). At the same time, "Dassault" for eighteen of its aircraft requested from Switzerland 2,7 billion francs.
The contract with Saab for the supply of fighters for the Swiss Air Force will reportedly be signed after government approval of the results of the tender held in February of this year. The delivery of the first Gripen to Switzerland is likely to take place at 2015.
