Australia has begun to upgrade its short-range and medium-range air defense systems. Australian Defense Ministry announced the purchase of new missile systems NASAMS, reports "Warspot" with reference to the portal australianaviation.com.au
NASAMS Air Defense Launcher
A Norwegian development called NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) was created by Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace in partnership with Raytheon. The air defense system consists of installations with six missile containers each (mounted on various equipment or supplied in the form of towed trailers), as well as radars and control points. Launch containers are multipurpose and can be used for various missiles (some of the supported missiles are already in service with the Australian army (AIM-9X and AMRAAM). NASAMS is capable of striking various air targets, including highly maneuverable ones (fighters, cruise missiles, etc.) The missiles used by the new system can shoot down targets at an altitude of 30 m to 16 km (according to other sources - up to 14 km) and at a distance of 2,5 to 40 km.

Procurement of missile systems will be held in the framework of the Land 19 Phase 7B project. In total, it is planned to spend about $ 2 billion on the air defense rearmament program. The Australian government says it will maximize the involvement of local producers in the program. In particular, it is already known that NASAMS missile systems are likely to be equipped with an Australian-designed MEDUSA radar system. In addition, NASAMS plan to use Hawkei armored vehicles on Australian armored vehicles.
