A detachment of Finnish peacekeepers sent to the Lebanese-Israeli border
Soldiers of the Finnish Army guard, patrol, monitor and escort important objects. Finnish soldiers and officers are currently participating in the mission together with the soldiers of the French armed forces.
The United Nations mixed contingent, which includes the Finnish military, operates in Lebanon on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1701 of August 11 of 2006 of the year. In fact, this resolution has put an end to the Lebanese-Israeli conflict. For the implementation of peacekeeping purposes, an international contingent of forces was sent to the border of Lebanon and Israel, which should assist the Lebanese army in maintaining the security regime.
Of of resolution UNSC:
Welcoming the unanimous decision of the Lebanese Government on 7 August 2006 to deploy Lebanon’s 15 armed forces in the south of Lebanon to thousands of people after the withdrawal of the Israeli army across the Blue Line and to request additional forces from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as necessary in order to facilitate the arrival of the Lebanese Armed Forces to the area, and reiterate its intention to strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces, as necessary, by material means in order to and to perform their duties (...) underlines the importance and the necessity of achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The resolution obliged Israel and Hezbollah to completely stop fighting. Both the leaders of Hezbollah and the then leadership of Israel declared that they would follow the document adopted in the UN Security Council. Today, the resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council are not always implemented by the parties to various local wars, which indicates the need to restore the leading role of the UN in the settlement of armed conflicts. The whole question: how?
