Icebreakers of type LC-60Я (project 22220) - a new type of Russian nuclear-powered icebreakers. The name stands for Icebreaker, power 60 MW, with a nuclear power plant.

The main tasks of these icebreakers are to serve the Northern Sea Route and conduct various expeditions to the Arctic.

Thanks to the use of variable rainfall, the icebreakers of this project are able to work equally efficiently both in deep water and in shallow water in Siberian river beds. This feature allows you to replace with these icebreakers both icebreakers of the "Arctic" type and of the "Taimyr" type and, therefore, reduce the total cost of operation of the nuclear icebreaker fleet, fully preserving all its capabilities.
