In Kharkov, they refused to rename the Heroes of Stalingrad Avenue

42
Kharkiv City Hall decided to refuse to respond to the claims of Kiev regarding the un-renamed Heroes of Stalingrad Avenue. Recall that the Kharkiv authorities, on the basis of the law on so-called de-communization and de-Sovietization, were obliged to rename the avenue. In particular, it was proposed to give a new name to the avenue - in honor of Miroslav Mysli, a graduate of KhNU who died in the so-called “ATO zone”.

In Kharkov, they refused to rename the Heroes of Stalingrad Avenue

The city administration decided that at the moment renaming should be abandoned. At the same time, the following reasons for refusing renaming were proposed on the department's website:
It should be noted that the Battle of Stalingrad is a battle between the Soviet and German troops 17.07.1942/02.02.1943/XNUMX-XNUMX. In Stalingrad, the German onslaught to the east was finally stopped. From there, from the banks of the Volga, the expulsion of invaders from the occupied territories began. The battle of Stalingrad was a turning point in the Second World War, as noted by the leading historical sources of different countries.
The battle of Stalingrad is, in fact, a proper name for an outstanding historical event. The liberation of Kharkov was a logical continuation of the events of the Battle of Stalingrad. In August 1943, the city was finally liberated during the Kharkov-Belgorod offensive operation by the actions of the 69-th army of the Voronezh Front, the 57-th Army of the South-Western Front and the 7-th Guards Army of the Steppe Front.

It is worth noting that 4 from 10 divisions (84-Kharkov Infantry Division named Tula proletariat, 299-Kharkov Infantry Division, 116-Kharkov Infantry Division, 15-Guards Kharkov Infantry Division) who participated in the liberation of Kharkov and which was given the name "Kharkov", before that took direct part in the Battle of Stalingrad.

The following states:
According to paragraph. 4 h. 1 Art. The 1 Law of Ukraine “On the Condemnation of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and the Prohibition of the Promotion of Their Symbols” The symbolism of the communist totalitarian regime does not include toponyms associated with the resistance and expulsion of the Nazi occupiers from Ukraine.

The text, signed personally by the mayor of Kharkov, Gennady Kernes, ends with:
On this basis, the working group found that the name of the Heroes of Stalingrad Avenue does not fall under the aforementioned Act.
Considering the above, there are no grounds for renaming Heroiv Stalingrad Avenue in the city of Kharkov.

It should be added that the decisions of Gennady Kernes are constantly criticized by Kiev, however, Kernes continues to be the mayor of one of the largest cities in Ukraine.

    He feels that if something happens in Kiev, he will remain in his place. He will say later that, they say, I was for you, but I had to obey. So to speak, preparation for their amnesty.

            You just need to understand clearly that these are people who in 2014 had a real opportunity to intervene in what is happening in the country and transfer the process from a forceful confrontation to a political one. They were afraid and simply fell under the winners. Now they lie under them and from time to time "shake", well, apparently that would not be at all boring.

        At the expense of Kernes goes a lot of controversial rumors. But this action is worthy of respect not only from Russia, but also from all veterans of the Great Patriotic War. And in general in Kharkov back in 2014 graffiti on a military theme was very popular. This suggests that many of the Kharkov youth read the right books.

          To the author of the article, write reliable information. No one was not going to rename, but there was a petition with 5000 signatures in which there was a proposal to rename Heroes of Stalingrad Avenue in the name of one of the glorious heroes of the ATO. (http://petition.city.kharkov.ua/uk/1925.html) And these words of the hero of the mayor of Kharkov, this is the answer to the author of the petition. In this situation, he acted as a competent manager who does not need unnecessary expenses and confusion associated with renaming. Moreover, hardly anyone in Kiev thought that the mayor would respond differently due to his reputation.

            In Kharkov, within the framework of the law on decommunization, 173 streets, one metro station ("Sovetskaya" - in "Constitution Square"), 4 parks and squares were renamed.

            In February, another 48 streets and five administrative districts of the city were renamed.

            Areas

            Dzerzhinsky district - to Shevchenkovsky;

            Leninsky - to Kholodnogorsk;

            Ordzhonikidzevsky - in the Industrial;

            October - in October (now it will be named after several significant dates that are celebrated in Ukraine in October);

            Frunze - to Frunze (in honor of Timur Frunze - fighter pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union, a native of Kharkov, who died heroically in 1942).
            Of course you need to be full. She is known to die last.

      since the end of February 2014, Kernes, who had previously been an active opponent of Euromaidan, supported the new Ukrainian authorities, becoming in his region a sharp opponent of the “Russian Spring” and its basic demands for federalism and the possible separation of its southeastern regions from Ukraine. This could interfere with the local federalists (the main force of which is the Kharkiv Fight Club Oplot) and Russia that actively supports them.

    I remembered a case when they were looking for the largest city on the globe. As the readers of "VO" know, more than 20 representatives of nationalities from all over the world fought against the USSR in their troops. So to this question one representative of one of these nationalities answered: "Stalingrad". Began to wonder why? Answer: "Grandfather told us that their company walked along one street of this city for more than 150 days. But they never reached the end of the street." I have the honor.

Kernos almost does not risk: the townspeople support him, the authorities need to pretend that democracy, slap a famous Jew and so as not to "take offense ": Kolomoisky, Valtsman, Firtysh and others. I am very glad that there are still those who beautifully and competently send Bandera, I think that in Kiev itself not everyone is delighted with renaming in honor of heroes, but there was a kind of online survey, and like the will of the majority, I doubt it however. But there are all sorts of directors that’s why they carry all kinds of institutions of national memory, all the more so since they demand it from them. Well, the masses, as they always do ...
