Representatives of the extremist organization Tablighi Jamaat detained in Moscow region
57
There are reports that several representatives of an extremist group have been detained in the Moscow Region. We are talking about the so-called “Tablighi Jamaat” association (banned in the Russian Federation), whose members in Russia put the creation of an “Islamic caliphate” as their main goal.
It is reported that 7 members of the group that was actively recruiting in Russia were detained. Those who were able to recruit, including recruitment via the Internet, were sent to specialized militant training camps located in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
From the official press release of the CSB FSB:
Seven members of a religious cell, including its leaders, were detained. Extremist literature, communications, and electronic media with work reports were seized during searches.
It should be recalled that by the decision of the Supreme Court of Russia, the activity of the Tablighi Jamaat group was banned even 7 years ago. Despite this, the underground network of organizations operating under the banner of radical Islamism advocated by the Tablighi Jamaat continues to be present in Russia. In addition to this network, there are several others. In particular, a Moscow student Varvara Karaulova met one of those (not without her own desire). Today, the court found her guilty of trying to join the terrorist organization ISIL (banned) in the Russian Federation and sentenced her to 4,5 years in prison in a general regime colony.
