Tank T-90 with the combat department "Burlak"

The network has a photo of a modernized model tank T-90 with a combat department "Burlak", developed in the early 2000s. It is reported Messenger of Mordovia.

Tank T-90 with the combat department "Burlak"

“According to reports, the development was carried out in Omsk at the beginning of the 2000-s, it actively used the experience gained during the creation of the 640 Black Eagle Object. It was planned that the radically modified unified tower will take its place on T-80, T-72 and T-90, ”writes the author of the article Lev Romanov.

“The first thing that strikes the eye is the stern compartment of the turret, in which there is an automatic loader, designed for elongated armor-piercing sabots with improved armor penetration. Launchers are located in the compartment, which outwardly resemble those on the Armata T-14. Apparently, these are elements of an active defense complex capable of intercepting not only rocket-propelled grenades, anti-tank missiles, but tank-gun shells, ”the publication says.

The frontal projection of the tower is protected by elements of dynamic protection, which was to radically enhance the ability of the tank to withstand various threats. Protection boards enhanced with new screens with dynamic protection.

“In the evaluation of this project, expert opinions were divided. Some believe that its adoption into service would greatly enhance the capabilities of existing tanks. Others, more skeptical, consider Burlak too weighted and prefer the fighting compartment developed in Nizhny Tagil, which can now be seen on the T-90MS. With a very high security, it is more compact and, accordingly, does not impair the maneuverability of the tank, "- the author notes.

The development of the Burlak combat unit was stopped after the Defense Ministry was headed by Anatoly Serdyukov.

The network has a photo of the T-72 with the Burlak tower, though under a tarp.
Only 72 is placed in the conveyor AZ of the T-90B / T-22 tank, and the remaining 21 shots are placed in non-mechanized combat packs in the hull and turret; the pipeline is replenished by new shots manually, requiring considerable effort and time (the rate of charge when charging from non-mechanized 1,5 stacking is 2 minutes), which in a combat situation increases the likelihood of defeat by the enemy and therefore is a significant drawback.
The project surpasses the T-90MS by an order of magnitude, since during modernization, for example, the T-72, the entire warhead is removed from the hull outside the A3 assault rifle, fuel tanks can be replaced with ammunition as an additional obstacle to a cumulative jet when penetrating sides that improve survivability, after which the crew may have time to leave the car, in contrast to the current layout in which detonation most often occurs.

And here is the article http://btvt.narod.ru/3/omsk_turret.htm

The placement of the refueling complex in the aft turret of the tank allows to achieve the balance of the turret and, consequently, further enhance the armor protection of the frontal projection.
TZK located behind the turret of the tank is highly protected, but even if it is defeated, the crew will remain unharmed, and the tank can be repaired even in the field.
Thus, in a modernized tank, the entire tank ammunition is automated; if a battered AZ is defeated, the tank is able to continue the battle using the AZ located at the bottom of the hull. In the presence of enemy tanks, loading is carried out by a shot of increased power from a zabazhennogo automatic loader, in other cases, shots from the AZ located at the bottom of the hull.

The advantages of the upgraded tank:

A set of technical solutions aimed at increasing the level of protection during modernization, including to increase the survivability of the explosion of ammunition (isolated compartments for fuel, expelling plates, etc.).
Fully mechanized ammunition in the refueling complex and the AZ at the bottom of the tank hull, with the defeat of the zabashny AZ (TZK) tank can continue to fight using the AZ located at the bottom of the hull.
Reliable protection of the crew of the tank from death when exposed to a kinetic or cumulative projectile.
The ability to use high-power shots with increased elongation BPS with a core of super-dense single-component and composite materials and improved SD.
Improving the effectiveness of the fight against manpower and air targets.
The use of modular combined armor complete with dynamic protection.
Increasing the level of command control, an information management system is installed in which the means of communication, control, diagnostics, computer processing of information and intelligence are integrated.
Improved LMS due to the expansion of search and accuracy indicators, installation of panoramas, equally possible weapon control systems for the commander and gunner to implement the principle of "hunter-shooter".
        Used materials of patents of the Russian Federation No. 2169 336, 2165617, 2233418, 43633, 2202756, 2215965, 2366882, 2204776.

The feeling that the photo is a 1:35 model. The location of the dz on the tower is somehow unfortunate - the direction of detonation when a projectile hits them down on the upper armor plate, which is usually the thinnest on the tank, and the mechanic will not have fun when such a thing crashes overhead. It was possible to arrange them as on the "Black Eagle" directed upwards.

The tank, the “640 facility”, later known as the “Black Eagle”, was developed in the 90 years by the Omsk Design Bureau of Transport Engineering (FSUE KBTM). The 640 Object is a fourth-generation tank that implements many innovative solutions and applies a layout that differs from the classic layout of both domestic and foreign tanks. The tank offers a new form of execution of the tower with a reduced overall height and hull with a partitioned bow. To increase security, the crew is placed only in the hull no higher than the level of the tower’s shoulder strap and is completely isolated from shells and reserved fuel, as well as powder gases when firing from a gun. Ammunition shells of the first stage are located in the automatic loader in a removable armored module installed in the aft of the tower and equipped with knock-out elements for directional shock wave removal. The protection of the tank has a three-level structure and includes protection against detection, active protection against damage, moving in the direction of the tank, as well as a differentially placed passive armor protection with elements of dynamic and hydrodynamic protection. In connection with the increased mass of the tank, solutions to increase mobility were also applied.

According to the description of the T-90MS, the main ammunition is still located in the combat compartment, although measures have been taken to its additional protection. And partly in the feed niche.
In "Burlak" and AZ is located in the stern niche. This means that all the ammunition is in the same place.

A question for the pros - in Yemen we see how often the "Abrams" are hit in a niche. At the same time, most likely, the car as a whole and the crew remain unharmed (well, pressure concussions - of course).

AZ is probably not a cheap thing. I admit that the new niche and the mechanism for supplying shots are relatively inexpensive and can be repaired in the field in a relatively short time.

      Who will clarify?

        Who will clarify?

I explain; on the T-90 core length is limited by the exact numbers I don’t know, but within 580-650 mm
maybe even less, that when installing plates of depleted uranium on the Abrams, it will not allow to pierce the forehead of the tower at a distance of even 1500 meters.
Burlak’s stricken A3 will make it possible to complete the tank with cores up to 900 mm in length, maybe even higher, which will allow to pierce any NATO tank in the forehead at any maximum distance.

This is the whole idea of Burlak.

Since even the automatic machine of the T-14 Armata tank also has a limit on the length of the core, they decide what to launch? for the modernization of the T-72 \ 80 \ 90 under a single unified tower will be several orders of magnitude cheaper.
        A plus ...
        1. Do not forget the operating costs of the troops, for Almaty it is still a lot of money for spare parts.
        2. The cost of equipment training, layouts and more.
        3. And most importantly, a sharp decrease in mobilization potential, since there will be few trained crews for Armata, and an ignoramus loses to a professional in any ultramodern tank, in the old one.
Modernization of the T-72 \ 80 \ 90 is a mobilization choice in any quantity, even ...... from the appeal of the 80s.

and a tank with an Omsk lineup

Transmash is more likely dead than alive, so it will be problematic to take the Omsk tank. They screwed up the plant. In the 90s, when the furnaces where the steel was brewed were cut off from electricity for non-payment, they expected that it would blow, but apparently they explained to the newly-minted comers power engineers that the furnaces should not be turned off so immediately they should be turned off gradually; otherwise, there might be a big drum, the electricity supply resumed. The mobsters and the police were on their ears. Now the furnaces are all stopped, the shops have been abandoned since the 90s. in 95 saw abandoned incomplete transmissions, on stocks, of varying degrees of readiness in the "tiled" shop. The staff is on leave, the work is dumb. Oh, such a plant was fucked up. The design bureau still seems to flicker, but the plant itself is not. But here, as in many other projects of our region, I consider the fault of our "eternal" governor, how many projects he has not announced during his 20-year career as a regional leader, none has been implemented, he has left only ruins from the region.

Not so much to increase as to partially transfer from the fighting compartment. It looks like it doesn't look very good on the model. Too large side projection is obtained. On "Black Eagle" the stern niche looks more harmonious. It seems like there were two concepts, one by one the traditional AZ was kept and a dumped container with built-in AZ was added. on the second, only a drop container with shells of the first stage, and the rest of the ammo rack in the fighting compartment, but more protected. Rather, the dimensions do not coincide with the real ones - if the projectile with the charge is placed in one line, then the size will be smaller, by about half .. the competition of armor and projectile is eternal, now new composite materials are appearing in hardness not inferior to steel, which means an increase in projectile resistance with a decrease in tank weight, respectively, new shells and missiles appear which should take such armor.
It's like with the ZiS-2 (ZiS-4) 57mm, at the beginning of the war it was too powerful and they stopped producing it "due to excessive armor penetration" (although Grabin didn't give a damn, they slowly riveted at the plant number 92), and when Tigers and Panthers, time was lost because the cannon also needs shells ...

57-mm anti-tank guns have ceased to be produced not "due to excessive armor penetration", but due to the disproportionate labor costs and the cost of their production. Instead of one ZIS-2, it was possible to produce 5-6 divisional ZIS-22-USV, which were even more important for the front - because they were badly needed for the emerging and reformed rifle divisions Alas, the pre-war stocks of guns were designed for the pre-war mob-plan, which did not imply the unwinding of the flywheel for the formation of fresh divisions, and the rate of losses of divisional artillery exceeded all pre-war planning norms.
Plus, for them there was no fragmentation shell (2/3 of the expenditures of PTP shells - namely the OS).

And Grabin could not rivet the 57-mm guns slowly - because only one plant in the country could make trunks for them. And it was not factory 92. wink
"Undercover" Grabin allegedly riveted the ZIS-3. But there are big doubts about this, since for this he needed not only to "screw on the muzzle brake" (as he writes in his memoirs), but to put into production a new carriage.

Well, a very extravagant option, especially the passive protection blocks placed "upside down" on the forehead of the tower, it's just cool, after marches from there, the crew will only have to shovel the soil with a shovel ... Although it may not be necessary, it may be conceived for additional protection frontal projection .... Yes, and the aft niche is too swinging, every time you turn the tower you need to look around - as if something is not hooked.
In a word, this plastic mulch very much resembles the process of making a pie by a princess frog, whoever doesn’t remember - kneaded the dough and poured stoves into the pipe, and the ugly-headed bridesmaids repeated all this. In such a context, as a disinformation for the developers of NATO armor, it is quite suitable.

“The first thing that catches your eye is the stern compartment of the tower, in which there is an automatic loader, designed under elongated armor-piercing armor-piercing shells with improved armor penetration
The question arises. Do these elongated shells with improved armor penetration fit only in such a tower?
Accordingly, in the usual T-90 tower, which we can see today, these shells are not used? So these shells were stolen from this tower?
In this case, this is a big minus. For the parameters of armor penetration of a tank shell is one of the main characteristics.
