Syrian T-72А received new Viper thermal sights developed by the domestic research center, thanks to which they can now effectively operate in the daytime and at night, reports Messenger of Mordovia with reference to within-syria.blogspot.ru.
"Before the appearance in the Syrian army tanks T-90A the vast majority of armored vehicles was equipped with outdated and ineffective sights. They require illumination with an infrared spotlight, which unmasks the combat vehicle. The detection range of targets of such devices is less than 1 km. In addition, they are vulnerable to various interferences, such as headlights, flashes of shots and flames of strong fires. As a result, the sights fail, and the tankers become “blind,” ”writes the author of the article, Roman Katkov.
On the T-72, the Viper sights are installed instead of the old TPN-3-49.
Viper is able to detect large objects at a distance of 4 km, but more clearly the target is fixed at a distance of about one and a half to two kilometers. Resource notes that with their help tankers now easily recognize the position of snipers.
According to Russian experts, the device is made entirely of foreign components that are not of the best quality, but at this stage it will undoubtedly play a positive role in increasing the efficiency of tanks.
