India will build a network of strategic tunnels at the Chinese and Pakistani borders
According to the publisher, two tunnels for the development of the road and transport network will be built in the state of Uttarakhand. The total length of the tunnels will be 89 kilometers. Two tunnels of 6,5 and 12 kilometers will be opened in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the north of the country. In these areas, landslides and snowfall often block roads.
New all-weather tunnels are designed to make continuous movement in the area. The territory of Jammu and Kashmir is the subject of a Pak-Indian dispute, in connection with which the Indian side considers the provision of uninterrupted transport links in the area to be of strategic importance.
The design of nine tunnels began in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in the northeastern states of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Among these projects, the construction of two tunnels, the total length of which will be more than 25 km, for the development of transport links with Tavang district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh on the border with China.
This area is the subject of a dispute between China and India. Troops and logistic support to the area are currently carried out mostly by helicopters. Two more tunnels are planned to be built near the border with China, in Sikkim.
All projects envisage the construction of tunnels in seismically dangerous mountainous areas with difficult terrain and harsh climate, the Indian press said.
