In Russia, the stage of factory testing of a modified self-propelled airmobile 125-mm gun for the Sprut-SDM1 airborne forces is being completed, according to News with reference to its sources.

"Sprut-SDM1" armed with a guided missile

"One of the main differences of the new machine is the guided weapons complex (QMC) with the latest rocket, capable of destroying even a tank with dynamic protection in the form of containers with explosives hung over conventional armor, at a distance of 6 thousand meters," the Defense Ministry told the newspaper. .

According to the information, “the newest product is fully integrated with the digital fire control system (LMS), which not only improved the accuracy of the Sprut-SDM1, but also made it possible to shoot low-flying and low-speed targets, such as enemy helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.”

According to the concern Tractor Plants, the self-propelled gun received a modernized rocket fired through the barrel of a cannon and created on the basis of the Invar-M shot.

“The leading cumulative charge is located in the nose of the rocket and provides for overcoming the dynamic protection, including the built-in version. The main shaped charge hits the target directly. To defeat fortified engineering structures, a variant of a thermobaric action missile with a high-explosive warhead has been developed, ”the article says.

The representative of the "Corporate Governance Company" Concern "Tractor Plants" ": “When upgrading on the 125-millimeter self-propelled anti-tank gun 2С25М for the Sprut-SDM1, a more sophisticated digital OMS with a combined gunner's sight with a thermal imaging channel and night vision was installed. Modern sensors provide corrections for firing into the wind, its own speed of movement, etc. In addition, the commander had the opportunity to fire from an additional machine-gun installation, including on the upper floors of buildings, the dominant heights in the highlands and helicopters. "

He also noted that the "modernized Sprut-SDM1" is unified in units and assemblies with the recently adopted BMD-4М airborne combat vehicle. "

From this we can conclude that, "like the newest BMD-4M, the Sprut-SDM1" seriously increased engine power, which significantly increases the mobility of a self-propelled gun both afloat and when traveling over rough terrain, "writes the publication.

    For combat operations with fast movement over long distances - a very necessary weapon is powerful, fast, floating ... He can’t go into tank attacks, and from an ambush he is a formidable opponent to any armored vehicles.
    It is good that the LMSs are constantly improving. Combat effectiveness depends on it no less than on the quality of the gun.

    Landing forces receive more and more serious weapons, which cannot but rejoice.

    Only thanks can be said to the gunsmiths. The range in 6 km is certainly impressive. If only there were enough working hands.

    Judging by the readiness of U.S. aircraft to knock down Syrian and Russian planes over Syria and the completion of preparations for Ukraine’s offensive in the Donbass, as well as the transfer of nuclear weapons from Turkey to Romania closer to the borders of the Russian Federation, the beginning of a kind of tour de waltz is just around the corner.
    Matches, salt, sugar, canned food, cereals, medicines, kerosene, it is high time to stock up. And also take more ammunition for civilian weapons (someone else does not?) Strengthen doors and windows, hang additional locks. And get ready to live under siege.
    Because the new self-propelled guns for the landing, the new armor and aircraft for the army - this is good. But citizens will have to fight with gangs of marauders, raiders, ethnic groups, as well as confront those police officers who decide to enrich themselves at the expense of the population. There will be hell in the rear ... if a miracle does not happen and the authorities do not decide to restore complete order by establishing tight local controls. What is hard to believe, given the criminal situation in the country.
    So we wait, sir ... But the self-propelled guns Octopus is a class!

      In 1941, Moscow was tight. BUT ... Someone put things in order ...

    Can anyone tell me how a guided (by whom, what?) Missile will hit armored targets (tanks, armored personnel carriers, etc.) at a distance of 6000 meters? Have you really forgotten that the earth is round after all and the "horizon line" on absolutely flat terrain starts at a distance of just over 4000 thousand meters. It turns out that the shooting is already over the horizon. And who and how will provide guidance? Or on the principle - I let you in, and then fly and figure it out yourself?

      4000 is from the height of human growth. From the top point of the armored car will be 5-6 km. And if the height of the object in question is 2-3 meters, then 6+ are quite possible.
      Ideally, if a car is in ambush on a small hill, it can theoretically shoot an enemy tank 6 km away with a rocket. Well, and a helicopter that hangs above the ground at 10-20 meters, she will "see" kilometers from the trench in 15 kilometers.

        In combat conditions, combat vehicles are in the trenches in such a way that only the tower is visible (I dug into the will with the soldiers in my life). So the height of the trunk above ground level will be at least 1 meter. Even if it "stands at full height," the horizon line practically does not change in range. It has been tested by practice on the Gvozdika and Akatsiya self-propelled guns. Hence the limitations on target designation and reconnaissance devices, up to laser rangefinders and electro-optical sights. it is not clear how the rocket will be guided at such ranges. If with a third-party "illumination" the question is clear, if independently - well, then I don’t know .... For low-flying targets (helicopters, gliders, etc.), everything is clear. We are back in the 70s practiced this issue with barrel artillery.

          All combat vehicles in combat conditions are in the trenches. Therefore, the height of the trunk above the level of the parapet does not exceed 1 meter. Even if they stand in "full height", the horizon line practically does not change. Hence, the operation of optoelectronic guidance and aiming systems is limited in range. For example, the KORNET-E ATGM has a firing range of 5,5 km, but the technical solutions incorporated in the design have a number of disadvantages - the tactical, technical and economic characteristics are sacrificed to the principle of "fire and forget":
          - the firing range is limited, determined by the capabilities of the seeker to capture targets and currently does not exceed 2,5 km;
          - reliable operation of the passive GOS requires a higher contrast and optical resolution compared to the requirements of the operator-guidance system, which does not guarantee shelling and destruction of all targets discovered by the operator. As a result, the universality of the damaging effect of the complex is reduced;
          - significant probability of disruption of homing, not only with the possible use of interference by the enemy, but also with the “normal” capture of the target of the GOS
          But in Kornet-EM, with a firing range of 10 km, new solutions have already been applied, such as "technical vision" with an automatic target tracking. This makes it possible to exclude a person from the ATGM guidance process and in fact ensures the implementation of the “fire and forget” principle, increasing the accuracy of target tracking up to 5 times in real conditions of combat use and providing a high hit probability in the entire range of combat use of the complex. Here everything is clear.
          And on SPRUT it is somehow foggy ...

    In fact, a light tank. High-speed with powerful weapons. In my opinion a GOOD DEVICE !!!

    Particularly pleased with this: "To defeat fortified engineering structures, a version of a missile with a high-explosive warhead of thermobaric action has been developed." Probably this rocket will have a power several times more than the standard ammunition for a 125mm gun. And in conjunction with the updated MSA, this will give a good trump card to the landing force when opening enemy strongholds in isolation from their troops.
