Media: in the north-east of Syria, the Kurds surrounded the units of government troops
It is noted that in Khasek there is one of the last strongholds of government forces in this region. Earlier, the Kurds forced the Baath troops and activists to leave the Nashva district, located on a hill.
According to the information, “Kurdish militias killed more than 16 soldiers in the clashes that began on August 30, another 33 were captured, including officers 12”.
According to the Syrian command, the armed conflict in Khasek was provoked by the Kurds.
However, according to Al-Mayadin, the Syrian aviation “Twice (on August 18 and 19) it attacked the positions of the Kurds, as a result of which 25 civilians and 16 militias were killed.”
“By controlling the completely northeastern province of Haseke, the Kurds are seeking the withdrawal from it of all government troops, in whose hands remain state institutions and the headquarters of the security forces. A similar situation exists in the town of Kamyshly, where the center of the Kurdish autonomous administration is located, ”the agency explains.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon warned the command of the Syrian army from fighting in the area of deployment of American special forces.
A spokesman for the US Department of Defense said that the Western coalition had sent its planes to the Haseke area to protect the special forces stationed there, which was in the area near the Syrian air strike. The incident did not lead to the collision - the coalition aircraft arrived in the designated area after the Su-24 SAR Air Force left it.
“We are very serious about cases when coalition officials find themselves in a risky situation, and we have the inherent right to self-defense,” said Pentagon press secretary Jeff Davis.
According to him, the Syrian military is “well advised” not to interfere with the actions of the coalition forces. “We made it clear that the United States Air Force will protect ground forces in the event of a threat,” said Davis.
He also noted that the Americans "did not directly contact the Syrian military or the Syrian government," and "did not declare a no-fly zone in the fighting area in northeastern Syria."
