MLRS "Polonaise" adopted
According to reports, the development of the MLRS "Polonez" started a few years ago. 9 May last year, prototypes of such technology were first shown to the public. At the same time, Belarus published information about the new complex. In the future, the equipment passed the necessary tests that allowed it to make further plans for the deployment of mass production and the adoption of equipment. Initially it was assumed that the "Polonez" will go into service in the fall of 2016. Last spring it became known about changing plans with a shift to the left. Due to some success or another, the expected adoption date was postponed to July.
At the beginning of July of this year, the Belarusian and Russian mass media published information announced by the head of the rocket forces and artillery of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus Gennady Kozlovsky. According to him, by that time the industry and the army had begun the transfer of a new multiple launch rocket system. There were recent improvements in technology in accordance with the wishes of the customer. July 17 system "Polonaise" was planned to officially adopt. Apparently, these plans were fulfilled, and the fleet of vehicles of the Belarusian ground forces was officially replenished with a new model.

MLRS "Polonez", according to the Belarusian side, is the result of the work of the country's own industry. The minimum number of components of foreign production is used, the share of which does not exceed several tens of percent. In the future, it is planned to reduce it several times, having mastered the production of the vast majority of major components independently. At the same time, regardless of the share of domestic and foreign components, the Polonez system turns out to be the first model of this class, developed and supplied to the Belarusian industry.
According to some data, confirmed by the available information, the Chinese defense industry played a significant role in the development of the Polonez MLRS project. A few years ago, China introduced promising guided missiles A200 on the international market for weapons and equipment. it weaponDue to the relatively high performance and relative availability for customers, it could be used in the Belarusian project. Thus, part of the elements of the complex could be developed by Belarus, while other components are no more than manufactured under license. Anyway, the result of this approach was the solution of the main tasks set by the customer.
The composition of the reactive system of volley fire "Polonaise" includes several basic elements. The main one is a self-propelled launcher with a package of guides. To ensure its work in the complex included transport-loading machine. A means of hitting targets are missiles with the required characteristics. Both cars of the Polonaise complex are based on the four-axle special chassis of the MZKT-7930 Astrologer. Using the same chassis provides a certain ease of operation and maintenance of equipment, and also allows machines to work together in different conditions.

Used wheeled chassis have 500 hp diesel engines that allow them to carry up to 24 tons of cargo and reach a maximum speed of up to 70 km / h. The four-axle running gear provides high cross-country maneuverability. In the course of the restructuring of the Polonez project, the base chassis will receive a set of new equipment necessary to solve the assigned tasks. The target equipment consists of a main platform and some units installed on it. The sets of additional equipment of the launcher and the charging machine are partially unified, however, there are some noticeable differences.
Self-propelled launcher is built on the basis of a platform mounted on the chassis cargo area. The platform receives boxes for storing property, fixtures for other units, etc. In addition, four hydraulic jacks are attached to it, used to stabilize the machine during basic operations. The location of these devices is interesting. They are placed between the wheels and are in niches, covered outside with gratings-stairs.
On the platform is placed the swivel mount of the launcher. Its design allows for the guidance of weapons in the horizontal plane. For vertical guidance, lift boom drives are responsible, on which the package of guides is mounted. The design of the launcher provides for the simultaneous installation of two blocks of four transport-launch containers of missiles on each. The block is a construction of 2х2, assembled using appropriate devices and mounted on the boom. This simplifies the use of missiles and accelerates the recharging of the combat vehicle.
In the cockpit of a self-propelled launcher placed control panels, necessary for the use of weapons. The available equipment allows the crew of the Polonez MLRS to determine its location and position relative to the target, calculate the guidance angles and enter data into the missile guidance systems, and then control the operation of the launcher.
The transport-charging vehicle of the complex has a loading platform similar to the launcher units, however it carries other equipment. For transportation of eight transport and launch containers with missiles on the platform are the appropriate attachment. Lifting and turning devices, however, are not provided. In the stern of the machine, a crane is installed, with the help of which it is proposed to transfer ammunition from a transport vehicle to a combat one.
For the Polonez multiple rocket launcher, missiles with relatively high ranges were developed. According to official data, these products can hit targets at ranges up to 200 km. It was mentioned that there is a possibility of simultaneous firing and defeating eight different targets at maximum range. Indicators of the range and capabilities of the missiles became one of the arguments in favor of the version of at least the joint development of these products.
According to data on the possible use of Chinese developments, the A200 rocket developed by the First Academy or CALT can be used as part of the MLRS Polonez. The new family of guided missiles was introduced several years ago. In the spring of last year, the Belarusian delegation visited China, after which it reported on reaching an agreement on the participation of the Chinese side in ensuring the defense capability of Belarus. One of the points of such agreements could be cooperation in the creation and production of new missile systems. If this information is true, then the Belarusian military became the first customer of A200 missiles.
According to reports, the A200 family of rockets have a caliber of 301 mm and a length of 7264 mm. Used tail stabilizers span 615 mm. The launch mass of the missiles, regardless of the type of warhead, is 750 kg. The missiles are equipped with solid-fuel engines, as well as a combined guidance system based on inertial and satellite navigation. There are three variants of combat units, separated on the final leg of the flight. The firing range of A200 products can vary from 50 to 200 km. The circular deviation at the maximum range, according to different data, does not exceed 50 m. The use of guidance systems allows you to fire several individual targets with rockets of one volley.

Missiles are supplied in sealed transport and launch containers. These products have a square cross section and a great length. On the outer surfaces of the TPK there are devices for connecting with each other or mounting on the launcher. Containers are used both for the transportation of missiles and for their launch, during which they serve as guides.
According to Belarusian officials, the first tests of the multiple rocket launcher took place last year. It is noteworthy that one of the landfills of China has become a platform for these checks. After that, some work was carried out, according to the results of which the project-developing countries were able to proceed with new checks. In early February, the 2016 of the year, the Belarusian military held an exercise of rocket troops and artillery. As part of these maneuvers at the Polessky range, firing from various systems was carried out. Among other types of weapons and equipment, the Polonez complexes participated in the February exercises.
To date, the Belarusian-Chinese salvo fire system has passed all the necessary checks, which made it possible to identify and eliminate all shortcomings, as well as to put it into service. The corresponding document appeared in the middle of last month. In accordance with it, the MLRS "Polonez" officially becomes a weapon of the Belarusian army. In addition, now we can expect the start of mass production of new technology. In the previous parades and other events, only two complexes participated in the launcher and TZM. In the foreseeable future, the number of such equipment should increase significantly. It was reported that in the fall of the troops will have to begin operation of the first division of the new MLRS.
In its current form, the MLRS “Polonez” can significantly increase the strike potential of the missile forces and artillery of the Republic of Belarus. From many other modern salvo fire systems, the Polonez is distinguished by a greater range of fire and the use of guided missiles capable of hitting targets with sufficiently high accuracy. In addition, the geographical features of Eastern Europe may affect the potential of such equipment. Under the conditions of this region, the firing range to 200 km is a very serious argument.

The Polonez project shows the ability of the Belarusian defense industry to create interesting projects of armaments and military equipment. Nevertheless, the achievement of relatively high performance is still a very difficult task, which is why Belarusian specialists are forced to seek help from other countries. In the case of the MLRS "Polonez" such assistance took the form of delivery of ready-made missiles with the required characteristics. At the same time, the project used ready-made special chassis of Belarusian production with a set of additional equipment.
There are some reports on the plans of the Belarusian industry regarding the development of the Polonez complexes. It is reported that in the near future, the enterprises participating in the project intend to develop new variants of guided missiles with enhanced characteristics. With the help of such products it is expected to significantly increase the firing range, expanding the area of responsibility of missile systems. The emergence of relatively long-range missiles can turn a multiple-launch rocket system into a complex of operational-tactical class. Nevertheless, any information about the existence of such projects and the reality of their appearance is not yet available.
The joint development of the Belarusian and Chinese industry in the past and this year has passed all the necessary tests, the results of which were recommended for adoption. Certain successes of the new project allowed us to shift the deadlines for adopting weapons and to begin supplying finished equipment a few months earlier than originally planned. As a result, a few weeks ago, an official order appeared to adopt the Polonez multiple rocket launcher for use by the missile forces and artillery of the Republic of Belarus. By now, the army should have received the first systems of this type. In the future, the production of equipment and weapons will continue.
