The cemetery of Soviet soldiers in the Polish city of Kielce was attacked by unidentified vandals, reports TASS report from the police representative in енwietokrzyskie province Damian Janus.
“On the eve we received information from the employee of the mayor’s office that five tombstones were turned upside down in the cemetery. The police who arrived at the scene recorded evidence at the crime scene, interviewed witnesses and is searching for vandals, ”said Janus.
He assured journalists that "local authorities will quickly restore order to the cemetery and replace the broken slabs."
"People sometimes commit various nonsense, but this time they have crossed certain boundaries," commented Cheslav Grushevsky, the deputy mayor.
“We take care of this cemetery with financial support from the government. We were able to eliminate the last damage ourselves, but this time we will have to seek help from the head of the енwiętokrzyskie province, ”he said.
The incident was not the first case of vandalism at the Keltsin cemetery: “in July, unknown persons transferred several tombstones and snatched an information board,” reminds the agency.
The remains of soldiers who died in battles with fascists in the area in 1945 are buried in the cemetery. Relatives of the dead often visit the burial places.
